For the first time this season, a team other than defending national champion Gettysburg resides atop the Nike/US Lacrosse Division III Women’s Top 20.
Tufts last week won three NESCAC games in convincing fashion — including a 17-10 defeat of then-No. 4 Wesleyan Saturday — and then-No. 9 Franklin & Marshall knocked the visiting Bullets from the ranks of the unbeaten in a Centennial Conference game, helping the 11-0 Jumbos become the nation’s new No. 1. Middlebury extended its win streak to nine games to move up to No. 2.
Tufts outscored the Cardinals in the second half, 12-3, pulling away with the game’s final seven goals to highlight its recent slate. The Jumbos become the hunted Saturday, when No. 9 Amherst visits.
Gettysburg and F&M were tied at 6 with seven minutes left in their Wednesday matchup, but the Diplomats scored the last three goals of the game to record the 9-6 victory. In each of the last three seasons, the winner of the regular-season meeting between these two has fallen in the league tournament rematch.
The No. 7 Cardinals travel to No. 12 Trinity tomorrow in an early-week collision as conference play continues for the top 20 and beyond.

HOT
York (+2)
The Spartans have won three straight games since a heartbreaking, 7-6 loss to Middlebury, and it would appear their tough non-conference schedule has positioned them favorably to make a run at Salisbury and Mary Washington for the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season crown later this month. York got five goals from Meghan Fox and enjoyed a five-goal lead for much of the second half in last week’s 12-9 home win over then-No. 11 Catholic.
NOT
Colby (-3)
The Mules aren’t in a tailspin by any stretch, but they have fallen flat in their last two tests against the nation’s elite. At home recently vs. Wesleyan and Middlebury, each ranked third at the time, Colby lost by an average of 9.5 goals. The Mules previously have rebounded nicely against unranked foes, but their Wednesday visit to 6-4 Bowdoin should be every bit a challenge.
IN
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
The Athenas continue to teeter on the border of the top 20, returning after a 20-1 hammering of Whittier out west. They have road games coming up against SCIAC foes they’ve previously defeated at home, Redlands and Chapman.
OUT
Bates (No. 20)
The Bobcats struggled mightily at home Wednesday against Bowdoin, falling 14-2. Credit Bates for rebounding with authority Saturday over Connecticut College, 16-10, in advance of a 10-day break to prep for a visit from No. 1 Tufts.
