Dakotah Savitcheff is a last-second game-changer for Albany.
In two games in one week, Savitcheff rattled off goals with 18 seconds remaining to lift the Great Danes to one-goal victories over then-No. 8 Cornell, 11-10, and America East rival New Hampshire, 9-8, to earn Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors. The wins pushed No. 20 Albany into the Nike/US Lacrosse Top 20 for the first time this season.
Against the Big Red, Savitcheff scored two go-ahead goals in the first half and all four of Albany’s second half goals, the last two coming within the final 18 seconds. Emma Powlin assisted Savitcheff at the 18-second mark to tie the game 10-10, and eight seconds later, Kenzie Neal found Savitcheff again for the game-winning goal.
Savitcheff showcased her late-game heroics again against the Wildcats by scoring the game-winner on a free position shot with 18 seconds left on the clock.
“Good teams find a way to win close games,” said Albany coach John Battaglino. “Dakotah is a clutch player.”
