The National Lacrosse League season is on, and the Buffalo Bandits have made the first splash of the shortened preseason, signing one of the most decorated goalies in league history.
Matt Vinc, a three-time NLL champion and six-time NLL Goaltender of the Year, will be a Bandit. The team announced the signing Tuesday, a three-year contract pending league approval.
Vinc, a 13-year veteran who has spent the last eight seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks, owns the NLL’s all-time postseason records for minutes and saves and is the active leader in regular-season minutes and saves. He won the first of his six NLL Goaltender of the Year awards with the Orlando Titans in 2010, and then earned the same honor with the Knighthawks in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018.
Originally drafted out of Canisius, where he played defense, by the then-San Jose Stealth in 2005, Vinc has been just as good in the postseason (19-10 record, 77.9 save percentage and 10.65 goals against average) as he has been during the regular season (98-81 record, 78.2 save percentage and 10.87 goals against average). He’s a surefire future Hall of Famer and joins a Buffalo team that finished tied for last place in the East Division with an 8-10 mark last season while allowing the third-most goals (240/13.33 per game) in the league.
