Emily Hawryschuk, Izzy Scane, Emma Trenchard and Tianna Wallpher are US Lacrosse Magazine’s finalists for Best Women's Breakthrough of 2019.

Head over to Twitter to cast your vote and look for results in our annual Best of Lacrosse (#BestOfLax) edition coming out in December.

More information on each finalist appears below.

Emily Hawryschuk
Syracuse / Team USA

Emily Hawryschuk was good enough in 2018 that we had her on the cover of US Lacrosse Magazine as part of our preseason coverage last spring. But even we didn’t know she’d be this good. Hawryschuk led Syracuse with 75 goals, became the team’s draw specialist down the stretch and had people complaining when she didn’t get an invite as a Tewaaraton finalist. Heading into her senior year with the Orange, she’s also been suiting up with the U.S. women’s national team.

Izzy Scane
Northwestern / Team USA

Getting cut from the U.S. women’s U19 team in the summer of 2018 only served to motivate Izzy Scane heading into her freshman season at Northwestern. Scane responded by lighting up the scoreboard for the Wildcats with 62 goals and 80 points to earn second team All-America honors. She also got a second look with the U.S. U19 team and was named All-World after tying for the team lead with 21 goals, including three in the championship game as the U.S. reclaimed the gold medal with a win over Canada.

Emma Trenchard
North Carolina / USA

Trenchard was a starter as a freshman at North Carolina, but took it up to a different level in 2019. She was named the ACC Defender of the Year as a sophomore and a first team All-American after helping to shut down some of the biggest names in the sport. Despite her young age, she’s been a regular at the U.S. women’s national team training camps over the last year and will be in the mix for a spot on the team for the 2021 world championship.

Tianna Wallpher
Brave

Wallpher was a three-time All-CAA pick at Towson and a third team All-American as a senior in 2018, but the summer of 2019 found the defender included among the top women’s players in the world. Playing for her college coach, Sonia LaMonica, for the WPLL’s Brave, Wallpher was a shutdown defender that helped lead the Brave to the league championship. Wallpher was named to the WPLL’s all-star team after the season.
