Saint Leo University men’s lacrosse player Blake Crownover died Wednesday in a single-vehicle accident in Pasco County, Florida, as reported by Romy Ellenbogen of the Tampa Bay Times.
The University confirmed his death in an official release. He was 19.
In a news release, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported the crash happened at 12:48 a.m. They said Crownover was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol did not factor into the accident.
Born Ernest Blake Crownover, the freshman biology major from Windsor, Colorado, was a member of the U.S. Air Force ROTC. He joined Saint Leo in the fall and was one of three goalkeepers on the roster.
“Our players and staff are devastated to have lost our friend, brother and teammate,” coach Brad Jorgensen said. “Blake joyfully excelled at everything he did and made us all better for having known him. Our thoughts are with the Crownover family and everyone touched by Blake’s passing.”
