The top four have looked very strong out of the gate, while there were only slight changes among the rest of the latest Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25.

Beyond the top 25, a host of teams are being considered as they jockey for head-to-head wins and the chance at some separation in the pack.

St. John’s (D.C.) flexed its muscles in a matchup of the Mid-Atlantic’s top two teams who were also in the country’s top five when it cruised by Gonzaga (D.C.) 17-6. The outcome’s margin bumped Gonzaga down two spots behind powerhouse Chaminade (N.Y.) and a Boys’ Latin team that has not lost since an opening season game against St. John’s. St. Mary’s (Md.) also moved into the Top 10 after a big win over Calvert Hall (Md.). Briarcliff (N.Y.) vaulted two teams on the strength of a promising week.

New to the Top 25 are St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.), which has a win over the South’s top team, Dallas Jesuit (Texas) among its 10-1 start, and Mater Dei (Calif.) is a newcomer as the top team from the West Region.

The heavy hitters in the Northeast made a major statement this weekend, with St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) crushing a strong Delbarton (N.J.) side, Brunswick School (Conn.) going on the road to convincingly defeat Deerfield (Mass.), and Manhasset (N.Y.) pushing the pace in a 15-7 victory over John Jay-Cross River (N.Y.). The top 10 remained intact for the Northeast rankings without a single loss among the bunch as action heats up around the region.

In the Mid-Atlantic, St. John’s displayed both talent and depth over the course of its victory over a Gonzaga team that has already proven its mettle. St. Mary’s (Md.) continues its rise as an unbeaten. The biggest change in the region came with defending New Jersey state champion Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) falling out of the top 10 after a shocking loss to Ridgewood (N.J.) in the season opener to end its 18-game winning streak. Paul VI (Va.) moves up one spot and Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) climbs into the Top 10 after a 2-0 start.

The South Region looks remarkably similar with just one change in the rankings. Lambert (Ga.) jumps Holly Springs (N.C.) after improving to 15-0, the best record in the entire region. Dallas Jesuit (Texas) and Westlake (Texas) stay just ahead of a St. Andrew’s (Fla.) team that is about to wrap up its regular season already.

The Midwest has a pair of notable newcomers. St. Ignatius (Ohio) knocked off Brother Rice (Mich.) to solidify its 3-1 start and take a top five spot. And MICDS (Mo.) bolted out to an unbeaten start through its first five games to serve notice. Forest Hills Central (Mich.) also made a move up after improving to 3-0 and Hartland (Mich.) fell after losing its showdown against Brother Rice.

Mater Dei (Calif.) used a big second half to top Corona del Mar (Calif.) and take over the top spot in the West Region. The only new team to the top 10 is a familiar program, Valor Christian (Colo.), that has lost just once. St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.) is the only team to climb significantly with their lone loss coming in overtime to Mater Dei.

It’s going to be tough for the Friars to top their performance from a 19-7 win over Delbarton (N.J.) on April 2. Future ACC foes Mike Leo (Syracuse), who had four goals and four assists, and Owen Duffy (North Carolina), who had four goals and one assist, paced an explosive attack that has averaged 16.5 goals per game to start the 2022 season. The Mustangs are averaging 15 goals per game and cruised to a 15-4 win over West Islip (N.Y.) on April 2. After notching his 200th career assist during the week, Joey Spallina (Syracuse) had eight goals and three assists, while Lucas LaForge added three goals and one assist for the defending Long Island Class C champions. After opening the season with a 12-7 win over Georgetown Prep (Md.), nine different players scored for the Bruins in a 14-4 win over Deerfield (Mass.) Saturday. Webster Thomas raced out to a 13-0 halftime lead and cruised to a season-opening 18-2 win over Clarence on April 2. 1. St. John’s College High (D.C.), 9-0

The Cadets asserted their top ranking with a 17-6 win over former No. 2 Gonzaga (D.C.). St. John’s led 14-3 after the third quarter after stretching a 6-2 halftime lead. Mac Haley scored six goals and Gavin Kelly pumped in four goals while Jackie Weller won 17-of-22 faceoffs. The Cadets also defeated Paul VI (Va.) 13-4. Previous: 1

2. Boys’ Latin (Md.), 6-1

Cardin Stoller made 12 saves and Spencer Ford scored four goals and added an assist to help the Cardinals win a key matchup over McDonogh (Md.) 8-6 on March 29. Nicky Brown pumped in a pair of goals and five different players provided assists in the MIAA A Conference opener for both teams. Boys’ Latin raced by John Carroll (Md.) 15-9 for their sixth straight win. They’ll host Gilman (Md.) on April 5. Previous: 4

3. Gonzaga (D.C.), 8-1

The Purple Eagles bolted out to a 6-0 halftime lead on their way to a 7-4 win over The Heights on March 29. Gonzaga could not get untracked in their showdown at St. John’s (Md.) in a 17-6 loss, though Declan Monahan made 13 saves through three quarters. Johnny Gardiner scored twice in defeat. Gonzaga played without James Matan and Freddy Fowler. Gonzaga has a tough turnaround with Georgetown (D.C.) on April 4. Previous: 2

4. St. Mary’s (Md.) 8-0

The Saints twice used late runs to close out a pair of big wins during the week. St. Mary’s put together a 5-2 edge in the fourth quarter to pick up a key 13-12 win over Calvert Hall (Md.) on April 1. The trio of Will Hopkins, Jake Adams and Nick Golini all netted hat tricks and Bobby Keane added two more goals. Gavin Burlace supplied three assists, and Zach Overend saved 13 shots. The Saints pulled away from a third-quarter 5-5 tie for a 9-6 win at Loyola-Blakefield (Md.) on March 29. Golini scored the go-ahead goal and the defense did the rest. Previous: 5

5. Calvert Hall (Md.), 7-2

The Cardinals fell 13-12 to St. Mary’s on April 1. Wyatt Hottle had a hat trick while EJ Vasile, Davis Provost, Jordan Wray and Nick Steele all had two goals apiece. Hottle also provided three assists and Provost had a pair of helpers. Luca Mercaldo made 10 saves in cage. Calvert Hall hosts Mount St. Joseph (Md.) and St. Paul’s (Md.) this week. Previous: 3

6. McDonogh (Md.), 4-3

The Eagles fell 8-6 to Boys’ Latin (Md.) on March 29 despite four goals from McCabe Millon. After trailing early, McDonogh rallied to cut their deficit to 7-5 but could not get over the hump. Anthony Wilson made 11 saves and Millon scored twice and assisted on another goal in a 9-7 win over Archbishop Spalding (Md.) on April 2. 7. Georgetown Prep (Md.), 5-3

The Hoyas got a pair of goals from Owen Horning in a 12-7 loss to nationally ranked Brunswick (Conn.) on March 29. Georgetown trailed 7-2 before trimming the deficit to 8-4 going into the fourth quarter. The Hoyas were scheduled to face Gonzaga (D.C.) on April 4. They host Landon on April 8. Previous: 7

8. Archbishop Spalding (Md.), 5-2

The Cavaliers rode the offensive duo of Nick Gutierrez and Mikey Weisshaar to a 15-10 win over St. Paul’s (Md.). Weisshaar scored six goals and added an assist while Gutierrez provided three goals and three assists. Spalding led 8-6 before scoring six straight goals to put the game out of reach. Spalding got four goals from Weisshaar and a goal and assist from Race Ripley in a 9-7 loss at McDonogh (Md.) on April 1. Previous: 8

The Panthers dropped a 13-4 decision to St. John’s (Md.) on March 29, but bounced back with a pair of solid wins. They trounced Bishop O’Connell (Va.) 18-5 and won a defensive battle with Landon (Md.) 6-4. They cross state lines again to take on Malvern Prep (Pa.) on April 5. Previous: 10

10. Seton Hall Prep (N.J.), 2-0

Quinn Spillett had a hat trick including the eventual go-ahead goal in the third quarter as the Pirates rallied from a 5-4 halftime deficit for an 8-7 win over highly regarded Rumson-Fair Haven (N.J.) on April 2. Matt Wrede set up a pair of goals with assists, and John “Jaz” Zanelli stopped 12 shots in the win. It was their first test of the season after opening with a 13-0 win over Montclair (N.J.). 1. Dallas Jesuit (Texas), 9-2

The Rangers started the week defeating rival Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas) 11-5 thanks to an 18-save effort by Connor Knight. McAllister Hobbs had his third straight hat trick. One day later, Dallas Jesuit rallied from a five-goal halftime deficit to force overtime and defeat Torrey Pines (Calif.) 10-9. Previous: 1

2. Westlake (Texas), 7-2

The Chapperals improved to 7-2 after defeating Dripping Springs (Texas) 19-2 on March 31. A day later, Westlake defeated Lake Travis (Texas) 10-4 on Senior Night. Previous: 2

2. St. Andrew’s (Fla.), 12-3

After losing three in a row, the Scots responded in a big way. St. Andrew’s defeated North Broward Prep (Fla.) 20-0 with Jack Schulte dishing out a team-high five assists. St. Andrew’s then defeated red-hot St. Edward’s (Fla.) 11-8 with junior Cole Hofbauer contributing a hat trick. Senior goalie Gunnar Schwarz contributed eight saves in a winning effort. 4. St. Edward’s (Fla.), 11-2

The Pirates plowed over Aspen (Colo.) 11-3 March 31 to extend their winning streak to four. That winning streak, however, was snapped two nights later to St. Andrew’s (Fla.), the defending state champs in Florida, by an 11-8 margin. St. Edward’s closes out the regular season against Jensen Beach (Fla.) and Lake Mary (Fla.). Previous: 4

5. Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas), 12-2

The Eagles had their five-game winning streak clipped last week by rival Dallas Jesuit (Texas) by an 11-5 margin. ESD led 3-2 after 12 minutes, but couldn’t hang on. Previous: 5

The Longhorns survived a tight encounter with Westminster (Ga.), winning 11-9 powered by a Kevin Connolly hat trick on March 30. The next night, Lambert overwhelmed Sequoyah (Ga.) 17-0. Previous: 7

7. Holly Springs (N.C.), 9-2

The Golden Hawks had yet another one-goal encounter with Middle Creek (N.C.), this time coming up on the losing end 13-12 on March 29 in overtime. Jarrett Huff had four goals and two assists in a losing effort. Holly Springs responded three days later with an 18-12 win over Apex Friendship (N.C.). Huff had two goals, four assists while senior Landon Parker led in scoring with six tallies. Previous: 6

8. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), 9-3

The Raiders held Jupiter’s Jackson Bashaw scoreless in a 13-8 win over the Warriors March 31. St. Thomas Aquinas, riding a four-game winning streak, closes out the regular season April 8 against Canterbury (Fla.). Previous: 8

9. Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.), 9-2

The Crusaders are riding a five-game winning streak and are unbeaten within their conference. Cardinal Gibbons defeated Cannon (N.C.) 10-8 on April 1. Previous: 9

1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 5-2

The Eagles' long spring break is nearly over as they'll head to the Buckeye State this weekend with games at Archbishop Moeller (April 9) and Milford (April 10), followed by a trip to the University of Michigan to take on Hill Academy (Ont.). Previous: 1

2. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 3-0

The Ramblers are coming off a dominant week in which they beat St. Ignatius Prep (Ill.) and Providence Catholic (Ill.) by a combined margin of 42-3. Their next game should be a little more challenging as they travel to Lake Forest (Ill.) for a state title game rematch. (The Ramblers won the 2021 state championship contest, 11-8.). Previous: 2

3. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 3-0

The Celtics have been overwhelming, winning each of their first three games by at least 14 goals. Expect an absolute thriller on April 9 when Dublin Jerome travels up Interstate 71 to Cleveland for a matchup with St. Ignatius (Ohio), which is fresh off a huge victory over Brother Rice (Mich.). Previous: 3

4. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 1-0

The Golden Bears recorded an impressive 19-1 win against Tennessee state champion Montgomery Ball. Next up for Upper Arlington is an April 5 trip to Olentangy Orange (Ohio), which has won four of its first five games. Previous: 4

6. St. Ignatius (Ohio), 3-1

The Wildcats burst into the top ten for the first time this season with a 12-11 victory over Mitten State champion Brother Rice. St. Ignatius also has Buckeye State wins over Hudson and Olentangy Liberty with its lone loss coming to the nation's top-ranked squad, St. Anthony's (N.Y.). Previous: NR

6. Brother Rice (Mich.) 2-1

Before suffering their first loss of the season to St. Ignatius (Ohio), the Warriors picked up a big win over Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) to run their in-state win streak to 34. Down 3-0 to DCC, Brother Rice took control with a 10-2 run, as seven different players found the back of the net, including four goals from Sam Klein. Previous: 5

7. MICDS (Mo.), 5-0

The Rams doubled up on Memphis University School (Tenn.), 10-5, then dominated their matchup with in-state rival St. Louis University Jesuit, 19-7. Mark Mintzlaff doubled his season goal total with a five-goal, seven-point performance against SLUH while Landon Gelven tallied five assists to go with his second straight hat trick. Previous: NR

8. Forest Hills Central (Mich.), 3-0

The Rangers entered their spring break undefeated after picking up an 18-10 victory over Detroit Country Day (Mich.). John Tomsheck was unstoppable Wednesday with eight goals while Nolan Hartl and Jonah McConnell dominated the X. Previous: 9

9. New Trier (Ill.), 0-0

The Trevians' season remains on but under probation following a hazing incident. That means New Trier will no longer play any out-of-state competition. Previous: 7

WEST TOP 10

1. Mater Dei (Calif.), 9-0

Evan Curry and Nate Chu each registered three goals and an assist, Nick Colignon made 12 saves in goal, and Mater Dei knocked off former No. 1 Corona del Mar (Calif.), 14-8, to claim the top spot in the rankings. The Monarchs pulled away in the second half after leading just 6-4 at halftime, helped by Lucas de la Paz winning 16 of 23 faceoffs. Mater Dei also added a 10-3 win over Servite (Calif.) last week with Nate Chu and Cole Crisostomo tallying three goals each. Next up is another test against Corner Canyon (Utah). Previous: 2

2. Corona del Mar (Calif.), 8-1

After a blowout win over St. John Bosco (Calif.), the Sea Kings suffered their first loss of the season to Mater Dei (Calif.) in a battle between the top two teams in the West. CdM cut a three-goal deficit to one going into the fourth quarter but never could get over that hump, and the Monarchs scored five unanswered goals to run away with a 14-8 victory. The Sea Kings don’t drop far, as they own wins over ranked Torrey Pines (Calif.) and Regis Jesuit (Colo.). Previous: 1

3. Mountain Vista (Colo.), 6-0

The Golden Eagles remain undefeated after adding wins over Mountain Range (Colo.) and Fairview (Colo.) last week. They took a 9-1 lead into halftime against Fairview and won 11-2 but had an even easier time against Mountain Range, winning 20-4. Only La Costa Canyon (Calif.) has managed to score in double digits against Vista this season, and no one has held the Golden Eagles to single-digit goals. Previous: 3

4. Corner Canyon (Utah), 6-0

After edging Cherry Creek (Colo.) the week prior, the Chargers had no trouble putting away Pleasant Grove (Utah) and Westlake (Utah), outscoring them by a combined 39-5 margin. Jon King scored seven goals and added an assist in a 16-3 win over Westlake. Mason Quick led the way against Pleasant Grove, tallying six goals and two assists. Corner Canyon heads to California this week to face the West’s top two teams. Previous: 4

5. Regis Jesuit (Colo.), 5-1

The Raiders haven’t dominated opponents yet this season as they have at times in the past, but they remain unbeaten in Colorado after topping Grandview, 12-9, and Colorado Academy, 12-7, last week. Mattie Cain had three goals and an assist against Colorado, Logan White added two goals and two assists, and Fletcher Sullivan had a well-rounded game with two goals, one assist, nine faceoff wins out of 11 attempts and nine ground balls. Regis hasn’t played a game decided by more than six goals, including an 8-2 win over Loyola-Los Angeles (Calif.), and its lone loss was in overtime against Corona del Mar (Calif.). Previous: 4

6. St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.), 10-1

Austin Hicks tallied three goals and John Culley, Matt Groeninger and Makai Todd each scored twice to help the Tartans survive a test against Loyola-Los Angeles (Calif.), pulling out a 9-8 win on April 2 after taking an early lead. That wasn’t the case in their only other close game this season, when they dropped an overtime loss against Mater Dei (Calif.). St. Margaret’s schedule gets tougher in the second half of the season. Previous: 8

7. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 10-4

The Falcons have lost three straight since earning a one-goal win over St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.), including overtime losses against two of Texas’ top teams last week. They fell 11-10 in double overtime against Highland Park and 10-9 in quadruple overtime against Dallas Jesuit. They are off this week but will get more chances to prove themselves against strong competition with in-state games against Foothill (Calif.) and St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.) coming up. Previous: 6

Last week was a good one for the Wildcats. They handed De La Salle (Calif.) its first loss, 16-10, on March 29, then coasted to a 19-9 win over Serra San Mateo (Calif.) before pulling out a 12-11 overtime win over IMG Academy (Fla.). Marin Catholic (Calif.) is up next on April 5. Previous: 7

9. Valor Christian (Colo.), 5-1

The Eagles replace Cherry Creek (Colo.) in the rankings after edging the former No. 9 Bruins, 9-8, last week and following that with an 11-7 win over Park City (Utah). They were up 7-2 going into the fourth quarter against Cherry Creek and fended off a late comeback. Gunnar Fellows led the attack with four goals and one assist. 10. Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.), 9-1

James Dakin won 20 of 22 faceoffs and Max Sloat tallied six goals and one assist, as the Gators added a 12-7 win over Marin Catholic (Calif.) on Saturday.
