Brine/USL High School Girls' Players of the Week (May 15)

The Brine/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

Northeast

Andra Savage, Palmyra-Macedon (N.Y.).

The incredibly prolific and productive sophomore midfielder/attacker became her school’s all-time leading scorer with a goal against Marcus Whitman (N.Y.) last week. Unfortunately, Savage tore her ACL in the next game against Canandaigua (N.Y.). Savage has 64 goals and 37 assists this season for the Red Raiders, who advanced to the Class C state semifinals last season. She has 190 goals and 76 assists in the past three seasons.

Mid-Atlantic

Caitlynn Mossman, Notre Dame Prep (Md.)

Mossman scored two goals and had one assist as the Blazers defeated McDonogh (Md.) in the IAAM championship game. She also had one assist in the semifinals victory over Glenelg Country (Md.).

Genny Wood, Hockaday (Texas)

The senior attacker scored six goals and won seven draw controls to help Hockaday beat No. 1-seeded Kinkaid and win its first Texas Girls High School Lacrosse state championship. Wood had a total of 16 goals, four assists and 19 draw controls in the three-game tournament.

Midwest

Katherine Burnside, Cathedral (Ind.)

The senior Colorado recruit continues to provide lots of offense for Cathedral, and last week was no exception. She scored nine goals in an 18-4 win over Park Tudor (Ind.), then added five more goals in a 15-4 victory over Noblesville (Ind.). For the year, she has 85 goals and 22 assists.

West

Sophia LeRose, Torrey Pines (Calif.)

The senior goalie registered seven saves against 12 shots on goal and forced several other shots wide to help the Falcons to a 10-5 win over La Costa Canyon (Calif.) in the San Diego Section Open Division championship. LeRose also intercepted a number of passes to keep LCC’s offense in check. Torrey Pines had split games with the Mavericks during the regular season.
