The Brine/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

Northeast

Maria Henwood, Baldwinsville (N.Y.)

Henwood, a senior, scored with 1:53 left in overtime to deliver a 14-13 win over previously unbeaten Fayetteville-Manlius (N.Y.). She finished with two goals for the Bees, who used a 7-3 run to tie the game by the end of regulation. Henwood is headed to Wagner College.

Mid-Atlantic

Julia Hoffman, McDonogh (Md.)

Hoffman scored eight goals and had two assists in two Eagles’ wins last week. Her third goal of the week came 2:24 into overtime against Notre Dame Prep (Md.) to give McDonogh the 11-10 win and keep their nation-best winning streak intact.

Carly Steinlauf, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.)

The senior had one her best games of the season in a regional quarterfinal win over Ransom Everglades, racking up seven goals and five assists. Steinlauf tied her season high for goals and set a season high for points. She had one goal in St. Thomas’s season-ending loss to American-Heritage Delray to finish the season with 76 goals and 46 assists.

Midwest

Brooke Smith, Upper Arlington (Ohio)

Smith has emerged as one of the leaders of Upper Arlington’s star-studded senior class. She scored 10 goals last week over two games, highlighted by a five-goal effort against previously unbeaten New Albany (Ohio). She also scored five times against Summit Country Day (Ohio) last week.

West

Peyton Smith, Mater Dei (Calif.)

Smith tallied three goals and one important assist to lead Mater Dei to an 11-10 overtime win over Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) and send the Monarchs to the Southern Section Orange County final. With the season on the line, Smith found Anna Rolfes wide open on a free position, and Rolfes buried it for the game-winner. Two-time defending champion Mater Dei faces St. Margaret’s in the final Wednesday.
