BOSTON (June 27, 2017) – The New York Lizards on Tuesday acquired attackman Will Manny and midfielder Joe LoCascio from the Boston Cannons in exchange for midfielders Dave Lawson and Chris LaPierre.
The trade was finalized shortly before the MLL Trade Deadline at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Manny, 25, was recently selected for his third consecutive MLL All-Star Game and led all Cannons players with 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) through the first nine games of the season. Manny scored 28 goals in each of the last two seasons and scored a career-high 32 goals in 2014. A native of Massapequa, N.Y., he has 206 career points in 59 MLL games with 124 goals and 79 assists.
LoCascio, 24, tallied 15 points with 12 goals and three assists in seven games for the Cannons this season. Playing in his second pro season out of the University of Maryland, LoCascio had a career-best five points (4 goals, assist) on May 13 vs. Rochester. He tallied the first points of his MLL career on Apr. 23 at Florida when he scored two goals.
The 27-year-old Lawson is a five-year veteran of MLL and a former All-Star (2014). He had eight goals and three assists (11 points) in eight games for the Lizards this season. Lawson scored the game-winning goal in overtime in New York’s Week 1 win at Chesapeake. He set career highs in goals and points last year when he had 32 goals and 44 points in 13 games. The Duke University product and Westford, Mass. native has 106 goals, 36 assists and 145 points in 55 career games between New York and Rochester.
LaPierre, 26, collected seven groundballs in four games for the Lizards this season. He had a career-best seven points (6 goals, assist) in nine games for New York in 2016. For his career, he has 11 goals, two assists, 13 points and 58 groundballs in 32 games. He was selected by the Florida Launch with the second overall selection in the 2013 MLL Draft out of the University of Virginia.
Manny (14th overall), Lawson (40th overall) and LaPierre (2nd overall) were all drafted in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft.
