MACON, Ga. — After a seven-year career and two leading the men’s lacrosse program, Chad Surman is stepping down from as head coach.

“I am forever grateful for the time that I’ve been a part of the Mercer University community,” Surman said. “Over the past seven years, I’ve been fortunate to get to know some incredible people in Macon, Georgia. The hospitality from day one and the passion for men’s lacrosse along the way has been first class. I’m excited about where the program is headed and where it can continue to go under new leadership. Thank you to all the players, coaches, athletic trainers, administrators, support staff, parents, alumni and fans of Mercer lacrosse for making this such an incredible experience. Good luck, Bears!”
 
Surman leaves Mercer as the program’s second-winningest coach.

While at Mercer, Surman guided student-athletes who succeeded in competition and the classroom. In his two seasons, he coached 16 Southern Conference Academic All-Conference selections, 44 SoCon Academic Honor Roll members, a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and seven to All-SoCon teams.

“I speak on behalf of the entire Mercer Community wishing Chad and his family the best as they head into the next chapter of their lives,” remarked Brian Garrity, Deputy Athletic Director. “He will be missed as a member of the Mercer staff and we thank him for his contributions to the men’s lacrosse program.”
