Clark Walter, the standout midfielder for a Limestone team that won a national championship in his freshman year, has been named the US Lacrosse Magazine Division II Men’s Preseason Player of the Year. Limestone also checks in at No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Men's Preseason Top 20.
Preseason accolades, along with Top 20 rankings, will be featured in the January edition of US Lacrosse Magazine, which drops Jan. 2.
In 2017, Walter played in 14 games and scored 13 goals as the Saints captured an NCAA title. In the two years since, Merrimack has taken steps forward to win consecutive championships. The last one, of course, came against Limestone. Walter, a two-time All-American who's scored 94 goals at Limestone, hopes to bookend his collegiate career on top.
Having grown up a hockey and box lacrosse player in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Walter is difficult to defend.
“He’s fearless,” Limestone coach J.B. Clarke told US Lacrosse Magazine. “He’ll put his body in positions we’d ask him not to just from an endurance standpoint. He’s slippery. He’s a dasher and a cutter and you just never seem to be able to get a hold of him. As a defense, you want to take his head off, and you can’t. He creates so much.”
