Gavin Adler Selected First Overall in 2023 Premier Lacrosse League College Draft
Gavin Adler was selected first overall in the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League College Draft, broadcast live Tuesday night on ESPNU.
Adler, a two-time USA Lacrosse Magazine first-team All-American, is arguably the best mark-up defensemen in college lacrosse. He reminds analyst Paul Carcaterra of Pat McCabe and Ryan McClay.
“Underestimate him due to his size, and he will eat you up and spit you out,” Carcaterra said when he broke down Adler’s game in April.
Adler was the first of three-straight defensemen taken to open the draft, an unprecedented run on lock-down players at the position in a professional lacrosse draft. Owen Grant was selected second by the Redwoods, followed by Brett Makar at No. 3 by the Atlas. The Atlas now have two rookie, day-one starters on defense under new head coach Mike Pressler.
Sam Handley fell to No. 4, and Chrome head coach Tim Soudan pounced at the opportunity to take the Penn midfielder.
