This season, USA Lacrosse will celebrate the accomplishments of players across Divisions I, II and III each Tuesday with Player of the Week recognition.
Players of the Week are selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors based on a variety of factors, including individual performance and impact on team success.
Because it was a soft launch of the NCAA lacrosse season last weekend, only Division I will be highlighted this week.
What a start to the 2024 campaign for Denver attackman JJ Sillstrop, a graduate student from Encinitas, California.
He kicked the Matt Brown era of Pioneers lacrosse off in style, dropping six goals — including the overtime winner — against Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field.
Sillstrop scored the game’s final four goals, willing Denver back from a 12-9 deficit with 4:06 to play. He made it 12-10 with 3:29 left, then scored twice in the final 44 seconds to tie it.
The equalizer was a man-up buzzer beater off a feed from Stephen Avery.
Denver entered the season at No. 11 in the USA Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20 but moved up to No. 7 in yesterday’s Top 20 update following the win.
JJ Sillstrop scored six goals, including the final four of the game and the winner in overtime, to will Denver to a 13-12 win over Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field.
