Noah Berger, a freshman on the Lindenwood men’s lacrosse team, was hit by a vehicle while walking back to his dorm Saturday night, according to the team’s social media.
Berger, an attackman from Centennial, Minnesota, is suffering from a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accident. A fundraiser on GoFundMe says that “there may be a long road ahead of recovery for Noah.” As of 5:30 p.m. Eastern on Monday, the GoFundMe has raised more than $65,000 after a base goal of $50,000.

His mother, Denise Berger, posted an update to Caring Bridge on Monday.
“We met with the rounding doctors this morning,” she wrote. “He struggled through the night with his brain swelling and temperature control. They increased his sedation meds to keep him more comfortable. … They want to do an MRI to determine brain damage once he stabilizes, but he is reacting very well to stimuli. They will keep him like this for a few more days. Will update as we know more.”
Denise Berger said a nurse is trying to see if the family is eligible, based on insurance, to move him to Chicago to get treatment from a top doctor in the country.
Berger has played in eight of Lindenwood’s 10 games this season, scoring his first career goal in a 15-6 win over Queens (N.C.) on March 29. Berger did not play in Saturday’s 15-5 loss to Jacksonville at Lindenwood’s Hunter Stadium.
