This season, USA Lacrosse will celebrate the accomplishments of players across Divisions I, II and III each Tuesday with Player of the Week recognition.
Players of the Week are selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors based on a variety of factors, including individual performance and impact on team success.
TJ Malone, Penn State
Penn State needed every one of Malone’s career-high nine points to down Yale on Saturday. The Nittany Lions looked out of sorts in the first half and went into halftime down 9-2. Penn State narrowed it to 9-7 with the first five goals of the second half.
Malone finished with five goals and four assists and kickstarted a late game-tying run for Penn State scoring with 9:40 left to go down 14-12. Matt Traynor and Mac Costin then scored to tie it, and Jake Morin netted the overtime winner.
Greg Palmer, Saint Leo
Palmer had as many points as Montevallo had goals in a 22-12 win for Saint Leo over the weekend. Palmer, a sophomore attackman from Ontario, produced eight goals and four assists, giving him 32 points through four games.
His 12 points set a program record, and Palmer is pacing the Sunshine State Conference in just about every offensive category.
Calvin Caputo, Williams
Scoring eight goals against a ranked opponent in your opener is the thing that makes Caputo’s eight goals so remarkable. The Babson defensive coordinator is still wondering how Caputo got so many open looks.
The senior from Pennington, N.J., put nine of his 11 shots on goal and led Williams to the 14-13 upset win.
