Pat Kavanagh is the 2024 Tewaaraton Award winner as the best men’s lacrosse player in the country, as announced Thursday night during the Tewaaraton Award ceremony at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
The honor caps a banner week for Kavanagh, who was a key factor in Notre Dame’s national championship repeat on Monday. In the 15-5 win over Maryland, Kavanagh paced the Irish with six assists.
The other finalists were Yale attackman Matt Brandau, Notre Dame goalie Liam Entenmann, Duke attackman Brennan O’Neill and Virginia attackman Connor Shellenberger. Kavanagh was also a finalist in 2021 and 2023.
Arguably the most decorated offensive player in Notre Dame history, Kavanagh finishes his career with 301 points (117 goals, 184 assists). He holds the program record for career assists (184), single-season assists (52, 2023) and points in a game (10, three times).
More importantly, Kavanagh was a catalyst for the first two championship in Notre Dame men’s lacrosse history. The 2024 Irish were dominant in May, becoming the first champion since Syracuse in 1990 to win each of its NCAA tournament games by at least five goals.
Kavanagh produced 20 points in those four tournament games.
Kavanagh was the No. 6 pick in the Premier Lacrosse League College Draft and will join his older brother, Matt, on the Boston Cannons.
