Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The Eagles are soaring.
At 6-3 following a loss to Denver, Boston College was having a good season, but another NCAA championship game appearance felt unlikely. Now the Eagles have won 10 straight games after rallying to beat North Carolina for its first NCAA title. Kenny DeJohn looks at the Eagles and the rest of the women’s lacrosse week in The Sunday Slide.
2. Who’s Number 1?
That’s the question we’ve been asking all season in men’s lacrosse and Virginia kept us guessing with a 12-8 victory over No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday. Matt Nunes made a career-high 19 saves for the Cavaliers.
3. Danger lurks beyond the top of the rankings.
Boston University is the Patriot League champion. Vermont is dangerous once again and riding a seven-game winning streak. Heartbreak in season finales. The men’s college lacrosse week in The Post-Week Tailgate.
4. Welcome to one of college lacrosse's best weeks.
One of the best weeks of the college lacrosse season is upon us. Follow along with the men’s conference championship central and the women’s conference championship central.
5. A powerful story from one of our own.
We billed the April issue of USA Lacrosse magazine as The Unlimited Edition and one of the great stories came from our own, USA Lacrosse Mountain Region Manager Shawn Maloney.
Including an upset loss to Delaware in last year’s NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament, Georgetown had lost four straight games before reeling off 10 in a row that has the Hoyas on the brink of perhaps a special season.
Rutgers played in the NCAA men’s semifinals last year, but is likely on the outside looking in for the the tournament this year. Such is the fickle nature of sports.
Athletes Unlimited and Topps have released a set of trading cards that includes the league’s women’s lacrosse players.
Who is incoming Denver men’s lacrosse coach Matt Brown? A look back at a feature we ran before Denver’s first NCAA title.
