The much-anticipated debut of Chloe Humphrey will have to wait another year.
In unfortunate news out of Chapel Hill, first reported by Inside Lacrosse, the top-ranked incoming freshman will miss the spring season with an injury — as will All-American defender Brooklyn Walker-Welch and sophomore attacker Marissa White.
As noted by IL’s Alyssa Murray Cometti, that trio of season-ending injuries adds to the loss of sophomore midfielder Kaleigh Harden for the season. Harden’s injury came in the fall.
Harden and Humphrey are both on the U.S. U20 women’s training team.
North Carolina entered the spring ranked No. 3 in the USA Lacrosse Division I Women’s Preseason Top 20, and head coach Jenny Levy has touted the team’s experience and depth as compared to last season’s Tar Heels.
Levy will now have to turn to that depth to replace an All-American defender and two of the sports’ brightest up-and-comers.
