Weekend One-Liners: ACC Rivals Clash

The game of the week (on paper) was played Thursday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass., and the madness continued.

ICYMI: Fueled by a 7-2 first-quarter run and a five-goal performance from Izzy Scane, No. 3 Northwestern handed No. 1 Boston College its first loss of the year in an NCAA championship game rematch, 14-11.

But if you couldn’t duck out of work early to catch it on ESPNU, rest assured there are still plenty of good games to watch this weekend, from ACC clashes to non-conference matchups between Top 20 teams.

No. 11 Maryland (3-1) at No. 9 Denver (3-1) — Saturday, 1 p.m. (Pioneer All-Access)

A Big Ten win could bode well for the Pioneers in May, but they’ll face a tall test in a Maryland team gunning for a win after an overtime loss to Florida.

Upset Alert + Game of the Week: No. 7 Notre Dame (4-1) at No. 4 North Carolina (4-1) — Saturday, 11 a.m. (ACCX)

These teams have split the last two meetings — with Notre Dame ending UNC’s ACC winning streak last year — so what will 2024 bring?

No. 20 Colorado (4-1) at No. 5 Michigan (5-0) — Saturday, 12 p.m. (BIG+)

Colorado turned heads with a win over Penn State and a close call against Northwestern, while the Wolverines’ defense is drawing comparisons to that of another team that hails from the Rocky Mountain State.

Penn State (2-3) at No. 8 Loyola (3-0) — Saturday, 12 p.m. (ESPN+)

Loyola has had a week and a half layover after rallying to beat Johns Hopkins, but Penn State has had all of three days to stew about a 10-8 loss to Drexel.

Virginia Tech (4-1) at No. 1 Boston College (5-1) — Sunday, 11 a.m.  (ACCX)

Whether Boston College is a lame-duck No. 1 is for us to discuss — the Eagles are focusing on rebounding from a title-game rematch loss to Northwestern against a Hokies team off to a hot start.

Yale (3-0) at No. 18 Princeton (2-1) — Saturday, 12 p.m. (ESPN+)

Yale beat Princeton twice, including by one goal in the Ivy League championship semifinal, so expect a revenge mindset when the Tigers host the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Duke (3-3) at No. 6 Syracuse (2-2) — Saturday, 12 p.m. (ACCX)

The Orange returns home to the Dome as one of the nation’s hottest teams having downed rival Notre Dame in come-from-behind fashion last weekend in South Bend.

Brown (3-0) at Harvard (3-0) — Saturday, 12 p.m. (ESPN+)

One of the pleasant surprises this season, Brown is off to a 3-0 start under new coach Katrina Dowd, but so is Harvard under the tutelage of one of the game’s G.O.A.T. goalies, Devon Wills.

No. 16 USC (3-1) at 14 Johns Hopkins (4-2) — Sunday, 1 p.m., (Centennial Digital Network)

The Blue Jays are coming off back-to-back one-goal games (a loss to Penn and a win over Georgetown), while USC is attempting to bounce back after mustering three goals against a stout Michigan defense.

No. 15 Virginia (4-1) at No. 19 Clemson (4-0) — Saturday, 1 p.m. (ACCX)

Two programs who are looking to break through in the BC-UNC-Syracuse-dominated ACC square off inside Clemson’s 1,000-seat stadium just for women’s lacrosse.

Richmond (4-0) at No. 17 Navy (4-0) — Saturday, 4 p.m. (ESPN+)

A pair of Mid-Atlantic teams with identical records match up in defending A-10 tournament champion Richmond and a Navy team hanging tough without star Ava Yovino in the lineup.

No. 10 Florida (2-2) at Arizona State (3-2) — Sunday, 1 p.m. (ASU Live Stream)

After an overtime win over Maryland and a rout of Jacksonville on Wednesday, the swagger is back for the Gators.
