The No. 4-ranked Cornell men’s lacrosse team exploded for seven unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to defeat Lehigh 14-9 on Sunday, bookending its opening weekend with wins in which Teat, Clarke Petterson and John Piatelli racked up a combined 36 points.

Might this be the best attack line in college lacrosse? The Big Red trio has certainly looked the part in the first two games, demonstrating chemistry and moxie. Teat, the Tewaaraton candidate, possesses the latter trait in spades. He finished with four goals and two assists to lead all scorers with six points Sunday.

Lehigh did a good enough job to limit Teat and company through three quarters. The Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead early and led 9-7 going into the fourth quarter. But Cornell outshot Lehigh 13-5 in the fourth quarter and coerced the Mountain Hawks into committing six turnovers in the final frame as their big guns got untracked. Petterson scored a game-high four goals to go with an assist, and Piatelli finished with three goals and two assists.

After a shaky start, the Big Red defense settled down and junior goalie Caelahn Bullen matched a career high with 14 saves, including seven in the third quarter, to improve to 7-0 in his career.

Syracuse Wins Second Straight, Deals Army First Loss

Syracuse’s season-opening loss to Colgate is already a distant memory.

The Orange, who got on track last week with a convincing win over Albany, dealt No. 14 Army its first loss of the season Sunday. Jakob Phaup won 15 of 18 faceoffs and Drake Porter made 16 saves in a 10-8 victory. Army’s A.J. Barretto made a career-high 18 saves in the losing cause.

Utah Gets Win No. 2

The westernmost team in Division I men's lacrosse wasn't about to leave the Pioneer Faceoff Classic empty handed. Utah got a late defensive stop to defeat Air Force 6-5 — the second win in the program’s young history.

Host Denver, meanwhile, made it a weekend sweep. The No. 13 Pioneers bounced back from last week’s loss to Duke by defeating Utah on Saturday and then punctuated the weekend with a 16-8 win over Cleveland State on Sunday.
