Cornell’s Jeff Teat outdueled Princeton’s Michael Sowers in a showdown of the two most prolific freshman scorers in Ivy League men’s lacrosse history to earn Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.
Teat factored in 12 of Cornell’s 18 goals, finishing with five goals and seven assists in the Big Red’s 18-17 upset of then-No. 13 Princeton in its season finale. He finished the season with 72 points, surpassing former Tewaaraton winner Rob Pannell (67) for the most by a freshman in school history.
Sowers was no slouch, adding to his Ivy League freshman-record point total with three goals and four assists. The Princeton attackman is up to 77 points this season with a chance to further distance himself from Teat in the Tigers’ Ivy League semifinal against Brown.
But for one day, at least, Teat had the upper hand.
