Cue the coaching carousel.

The first prominent vacancy for a college lacrosse coach opened Monday, as Delaware announced it would part ways with Kateri Linville after nine seasons.

“I want to thank Kateri for her dedication to the University of Delaware and her student-athletes,” said Chrissi Rawak, the school’s athletic director, said in a press release. “Kateri and her student-athletes have always represented us the right way and cared deeply for the university and this community. However, at this point, we felt it was necessary for us to provide new leadership for our program moving forward.”

Women’s lacrosse will become the 12th of Delaware’s 21 varsity sports to undergo a coaching change since Rawak became athletic director in May of 2016, as reported by the News Journal.

The Blue Hens finished 7-10 this season, 1-5 in CAA play. Overall, Linville compiled a 79-75 record at the helm. A 2003 graduate of Delaware and former assistant coach at Notre Dame, Linville took over prior to the 2010 season after Kim Ciarrocca retired.

“Becoming a head coach at my alma mater was an honor I will always cherish,” Linville said. “They say home is where the heart is — Delaware is a place I will always call home. I am forever grateful for my time here as both a player and a coach. I wish the team all the best moving forward.”

A national search for Linville’s successor will begin immediately, the school stated in the release.
