The FOGOs are on fire, and Denver’s Trevor Baptiste again is mounting his case to become the first faceoff specialist to win the prestigious Tewaaraton Award.

Baptiste’s latest gem — a perfect 22-for-22 performance in the Pioneers’ 17-8 win over Cleveland State — has earned him Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

It was the 22nd perfect game (minimum of 10 faceoff attempts) in NCAA Division I history, but among them, only a 25-for-25 showing by Sacred Heart’s Zach Smith in 2007 ranks ahead of what Baptiste accomplished Sunday.

There were two other notable faceoff performances over the weekend. Albany’s TD Ierlan was nearly as perfect as Baptiste, going 21-for-22 in the Great Danes’ 18-5 thrashing of Drexel, while Virginia’s Justin Schwenk was a workhorse in an 18-15 shootout win over Princeton, grinding out 34 draws and winning 25 of them.
