Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Maryland, Northwestern and Duke pick up conference wins on Thursday.
Northwestern received the toughest test of the night, battling with No. 14 Rutgers. Lauren Gilbert dropped eight goals to lead the Wildcats to the 21-14 victory. Taralyn Naslonski broke Rutgers’ all-time scoring record of 233 point in the loss.
Duke withstood a furious Virginia Tech rally in the fourth quarter for the 15-14 victory. The Blue Devils led 14-9 with 12 minutes remaining, Olivia Vergano and Sarah Lubnow mounted a rally that put the Hokies within a goal with 1:42, but they’d get no closer. Katie DeSimone had five goals in the win.
Maryland got another big game from Aurora Cordingley, who scored five goals to fuel a 13-6 victory over Penn State. Emily Sterling chipped in a career-high 13 saves to continue her impressive 2022 season.
2. The Great Danes pick up a big win in the rain.
Albany’s rival, Syracuse, came to town in a rainy Thursday night matchup. The Great Danes used a big second quarter and maintained the lead throughout a 14-12 victory over the Orange. Graydon Hogg had four goals to lead Albany to the win — the third straight after a 1-5 start.
