Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. John Hardt was selected Thursday to chair the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Committee. Hardt, Bucknell's director of athletics and recreation, will replace Fairfield director of athletics Eugene Doris starting on Sept. 1.

Hardt had served on the committee for three years before getting the nod as committee chair. Also added to committee were Brown AD Jack Hayes, Hofstra deputy AD Dino Mattessich, Furman coach Richie Meade and Marquette coach Joe Amplo.

2. Jeremy Hirsch is coming back to Princeton. Hirsch, the former captain of the 2010 Princeton team, was named defensive coordinator on coach Matt Madalon's staff.

Hirsch joins the Princeton staff after serving as defensive coordinator for Hobart over the past four seasons. Last season, his unit led the nation in man-down defense.

“It was ingrained in me while a player for Princeton that playing great defense is synonymous with Princeton Lacrosse,” Hirsch said. “I'm eager to build upon that tradition as a coach. I look forward to digging in at Princeton and working with the student-athletes and can't wait to get started.”

3. The Women’s Professional Lacrosse League will host its inaugural weekend at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. on September 30. The weekend will act as a glimpse for what’s to come in the league, which will officially kick off in the summer of 2018.

Players from all five teams —who will be selected at the WPLL draft on Aug. 23 — will take the field for the showcase game.  The weekend will also feature the Legends Celebration, which will honor those that paved the way for professional women’s lacrosse. 

4. NLL prospect Austin Staats is returning to Onondaga Community College for the 2018 season, according to Inside Lacrosse. Staats, a projected NLL top pick, will presumably finish his career at OCC and head to Syracuse, making him a 2020 draft class member. 

In other college news, Towson and St. Joseph’s added pieces ahead of the 2018 season. The Tigers, who advanced to the final four for the first time since 2001 in May, welcomed former Richmond product Jean-Luc Chetner. Chetner was an All-SoCon second team member. Former Virginia player Will McNamara, a grad student, joined St. Joseph’s after three seasons with the Cavaliers.

5. The Minto Cup began on Thursday, with the Coquitlam Adanacs picking up an 8-6 win over the Mimico Mountaineers in Game 1. In the second game, the Six Nations Arrows beat the Okotoks Raiders 9-7.

6. Penn State women's coach Missy Doherty had some fun on Twitter on Thursday afternoon. She decided to share ecerpts from some of the letters that her upperclassmen sent to freshman as they arrive on campus for the fall.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Kyle Bernlohr’s emergence with the Ohio Machine is a converging of a few different trends in lacrosse: The growing lacrosse movement in lacrosse and the changing of the guard from low movement goalies to acrobatic and athletic ones.

• The Denver Outlaws are headed to their second consecutive MLL championship game this weekend, and it’s due largely in part to a series of strong personnel moves that helped put together the current roster.

• A good read for incoming college athletes. Michigan Health offers tips to help fight college depression, an ongoing issue among freshmen.

• The Rochester Rattlers fell to the Denver Outlaws in last weekend’s MLL semifinals. Today, players and coaches thanked fans for a successful season.

From one successful Denver team to another. Colorado Rockie Manager Bud Black wished good luck to the Outlaws as they head to Frisco to face the Outlaws. Maybe the Outlaws will return the favor later this year.
