Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Athletes at Saugus High School in Los Angeles turned to lacrosse as a temporary respite from the aftermath of a school shooting, and US Lacrosse and the Premiere Lacrosse League were there to help.
Kyle Hartzell and Joe Walters put on a clinic for the boys lacrosse team, preaching both about the game and how the sport can be an escape. The must-read story by Matt Hamilton can be found here.
“We’re not going to let this take us out of our element. We’re going to be Saugus Strong.”

2. The first wave of Tewaaraton Award finalists were announced. The 20th Tewaaraton ceremony is May 28, 2020. At a reception Thursday evening, 50 men and 50 women were named to their respective watch lists.
See the men here and the women here.
3. If you were shocked by UMass’ season-opening victory over Boston College, you probably weren’t alone. But maybe you shouldn’t have been so surprised.
Ella Brockway writes about how motivation and an investment in facilities has the Minutewomen ready to roll.
4. Four days before his collegiate lacrosse debut, Maryland freshman Jack Brennan was back home in upstate New York, mourning the death of his uncle — the man who introduced him to lacrosse. Days after the funeral, Brennan scored two of Maryland’s first three goals.
The feature by Brian Logue can be found here.
