Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1.  The U.S. women's team opened the World Cup with a convincing 19-3 victory over Scotland. Kayla Treanor had a team-high six points (3g, 3a) and Brooke Griffin and Kelly Rabil each talleid four goals for the U.S. On the defensive side of the ball, the U.S. team's relentless pressure limited Scotland to just six shots. The U.S. will play long Australia on Friday morning at 10 a.m.

2. As the U.S. women are underway in England, Mike Manley is wearing a different uniform after his successful tryout for the U.S. men's team. Manley is a rookie trooper with the New York State Police after being part of the centennial class at the police academy. With one brother already serving as a state trooper and another serving in the military, Manley has a deep appreciation and admiration for those who serve.

3. Nicole Alecce, a recent graduate of national power McDonogh (Md.) and an intern for US Lacrosse, shares her thoughts on the McDonogh dynasty — one that includes a current 177-game winning streak. The team's motto was simple — "Earned, Not Given."

4. Alecce's McDonogh team finished No. 1 in the final Nike/US Lacrosse National Top 25 and Kyla Sears of Skaneateles (N.Y.) was named the Epoch/US Lacrosse National Player of the Year.

5. Atlanta moved to within a half-game of Charlotte and Florida for the final playoff sport in Major League Lacrosse with a 16-14 come-from-behind victory at New York on Thursday night. Greg Gurenlian scored off a faceoff to give New York a 13-10 lead with 3:32 left in the third quarter, but Atlanta then ripped off six straight goals to post the win. Mark Matthews, James Pannell and Kevin Rice all had three goals for Atlanta. Rob Pannell and Paul Rabil each had three for New York, with Rabil burying two 2-pointers.
