Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Things got testy off the field between Boston and New York after the trade that went completely New York’s way, and they got testy on the field when the two teams met on Thursday night in Major League Lacrosse play. The first quarter featured 10 penalties, including 5-minute misconduct penalties for Boston’s Matt Landis and New York’s Rob Pannell. New York won the key game 16-14 with Will Manny (4g) and Joe LoCascio (1g) each scoring against their former team. Paul Rabil had a goal and two assists to move into second on the MLL’s all-time scoring list.

In other MLL results:

The results did little to clear up the MLL playoff picture. Denver leads the league at 8-3 and is followed by Ohio at 7-4. From there, it’s a near repeat of last year’s logjam in the standings. Rochester (6-6), New York (6-6), Florida (6-6), Chesapeake (5-6), Charlotte (5-6) and Atlanta (5-6) are all within a half game of each other. Boston (3-8) is the only team out of contention for a playoff berth.

2. Kayla Treanor’s magical tournament at the FIL Rathbones Women’s World Cup continued. Treanor was named the Player of the Match for the second time in the tournament after netting five goals and three assists in the United States’ 19-8 win over England. That pushes the U.S. into the World Cup final for the 10th consecutive time. The U.S. will meet Canada, an 8-6 overtime winner over Australia, in the championship on Saturday.

3. Brett Hughes and Trevor Tierney were among the early stars in Major League Lacrosse. Phil Shore caught up with them to get their thoughts on the evolution of the game.

4. The Long Island Sound won the inaugural United Women’s Lacrosse League championship last year, and the Sound completed the regular season undefeated after coming from behind to beat Boston 14-11 on Thursday. Christina Esposito had five goals, including a two-pointer. The playoffs begin next weekend in Boston.
