Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Stony Brook senior attacker Courtney Murphy, who set the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse single-season record with 100 goals in 2016, will miss the remainder of the 2017 season due to an ACL injury sustained in the Seawolves’ 13-5 win over Northwestern on March 5, Inside Lacrosse reported Thursday. Murphy underwent surgery on March 15 and decided to redshirt the remainder of 2017, according to the report. Despite previously accepting a job on Wall Street, Murphy plans to return to Stony Brook in 2018. She scored 14 goals in four games this season and is 44 goals shy of becoming the NCAA’s all-time leader.

2. Hofstra and Rutgers are among five undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse. The Pride have received a surprising boost from freshman faceoff man Kyle Gallagher, who is only seven months removed from spinal fusion surgery, while the Scarlet Knights boast a goalie in Max Edelmann who has yet to lose at this level. Gary Lambrecht checked in with both teams for his report Thursday.

3. The Tewaaraton watch lists were expanded to include 15 players — eight men and seven women —who were added Thursday based on their early-season performances.

4. Former Syracuse star Kayla Treanor returns to the Carrier Dome on Saturday as an assistant coach for Harvard. She already has made a difference for the 4-1 Crimson.

5. Duke had lost three straight games to drop out of the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20. Despite spotting Saint Joseph’s a four-goal lead, the Blue Devils were able to turn it on in the second half and snap the skid with a 16-10 victory Thursday.

WHAT WE’RE READING

  • Penn State is highly ranked, including a No. 1 spot in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20. But the analytics tell a different story.

  • In addition to Hofstra, Rutgers and Penn State, Michigan and Boston University also are enjoying breakthrough seasons. ESPN analyst Quint Kessenich canvassed all five teams for The Baltimore Sun. (Then Kessenich hit the canvas as part of ESPN’s coverage of the NCAA wrestling championships, which included an interview with actor Billy Baldwin.)

  • Several college lacrosse players are wearing the jersey No. 14 this season to honor the late Eddie Blatz, a former defenseman at Georgetown who died last April.

  • The surging Rochester Knighthawks and first-place Georgia Swarm will get a boost this weekend with Sid Smith and Joel White, respectively, being activated and making their NLL season debuts.

  • 3d Lacrosse and Harlem Lacrosse have big plans for the second year of their burgeoning partnership.

  • In high school action, the Jupiter (Fla.) boys upset St. Andrew’s (Fla.) in a “playoff-like atmosphere,” while the Vero Beach (Fla.) girls rebounded from a blowout loss to national No. 1 McDonogh (Md.) to defeat Hill Academy (Ontario) in double overtime.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

The Woodlands (Texas) boys’ lacrosse team was more than a bit fired up to return from a West Coast swing with four wins under its belt, including a victory over California powerhouse La Costa Canyon. The Highlanders are now 13-0 and even drawing praise from rival Highland Park (Texas), which they will play April 1 likely for the top billing in the Lone Star State.

WHAT’S ON TAP

  • Top-ranked Penn State will look to go 8-0 when it hosts Fairfield, a dangerous team despite its slow start.

  • USC is 5-1, but all five wins have come against teams currently with losing records. The Women of Troy play tonight at 4-1 Dartmouth, starting a stretch of three road games in eight days that include tilts Sunday against No. 10 Cornell in Boston and next Saturday at No. 7 Stony Brook.

  • Six teams ranked in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division III Men’s Top 20 — No. 4 RIT, No. 6 Stevenson, No. 7 Dickinson, No. 8 York, No. 13 Amherst and No. 14 Denison — plus Lynchburg (receiving Top 20 consideration) and Nazareth are in action at the Mustang Classic in Owings Mills, Md. Each team will play two games in two days.
