Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The inaugural Pan-American Lacrosse Association Women’s World Lacrosse qualifiers started Thursday in Auburndale, Fla., with four game sandwiched around opening ceremonies. Day one results:
Jamaica 10, Colombia 6
Mexico 18, Argentina 2
Haudenosaunee 17, Colombia 3
Puerto Rico 15, Argentina 2
Pool play concludes this morning (11 a.m. EST) with Mexico vs. Puerto Rico and Haudenosaunee vs. Jamaica, followed by play-in games (4 p.m. EST). The semifinals are Saturday (4 p.m. EST) and the championship game is Sunday (11:30 a.m. EST).
2. Wheelchair lacrosse is not for the faint of heart.
The Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team took on the Wheelchair Lacrosse USA national champion Maryland Thunder in an exhibition Thursday, and the Blue Jays took their lumps in a 13-2 loss at Freestate Sports Arena in White Marsh, Md.
It was the fifth time the two teams have met in the crossover format. Hopkins has yet to defeat the Kennedy Krieger Institute-sponsored Thunder.
"They kicked our tails," Blue Jays coach Dave Pietramala told PressBox after last year’s contest. "Our guys got a real dose of humility."
Thursday was more of the same, it seemed. Skip ahead to the 45-second mark in this tweet for a taste.
