Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Starting today, you can help US Lacrosse Magazine crown men’s and women’s national champions in the 2020 Virtual NCAA Tournament.
We’ll post polls on Twitter each day highlighting different matchups. The fan vote will count for 50 percent of the final result. US Lacrosse Magazine experts make up the other 50 percent. In a few weeks, we’ll have champions on both the men’s and women’s sides.
See the full men’s bracket here and the women’s bracket here.
2. A medical examiner determined last week that the death of Jim Darcangelo, a National Lacrosse Hall of Fame player and co-founder of Lax World, died last Saturday due to complications from a recent bicycle accident, not cardiac arrest, as the family initially believed.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions in his memory to US Lacrosse, 2 Loveton Circle, Sparks, Md., 21152, uslacrosse.org/darcangelo.
3. On Friday, Mac O’Keefe announced that he will return to Penn State next season. The senior sniper won’t have Grant Ament feeding him the ball, but O’Keefe will certainly keep the Nittany Lions relevant. More here.
4. Major League Lacrosse commissioner Alexander “Sandy” Brown announced Friday that the MLL season will not begin on May 30 as originally scheduled due to COVID-19. More here.
5. Eighteen-year-old Noah Homayouni of Mount Airy, Md., was shot and killed while outside his home. He was an innocent bystander. He was signed to play college lacrosse in the fall at Howard Community College.
A GoFundMe set up in his name had an initial fundraising goal of $15,000. As of Sunday evening, over $40,000 had been raised.
