Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The New York Lizards moved to 6-2 on the season with a come-from-behind 15-14 victory over the defending champion Ohio Machine as part of a WPLL/MLL doubleheader on Saturday. Down 13-10 early in the fourth quarter, the Lizards scored four of the final five goals, including the eventual game-winner by Will Manny with 36 seconds remaining.

Manny, who finished with four goals, scored his second game-winner in three days after helping down the U.S. national team on Thursday night. Joe Walters added four goals and Paul Rabil had three goals and an assist in the Lizards win.

In the other MLL game Saturday, the Atlanta Blaze got four goals from Kevin Rice to down the Charlotte Hounds 16-10 and improve to 4-6.

The Blaze broke open a close game in the second quarter, scoring five of six goals, including two of Christian Cuccinello’s three tallies. Adam Ghitelman had 10 saves in the victory.

2. The Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic showcased some of the top seniors in the nation at Homewood Field over the weekend. The South team took the boys' All-American game 22-15 over the North, thanks to four goals from Nicky Solomon (North Carolina), who earned MVP honors.

Joey Epstein (Johns Hopkins) was up to his old tricks coming out of halftime, scoring three goals to give the South some breathing room late.

In the boys’ underclass games, Baltimore won the Highlight Division and West took the Command Division title.

3. The girls' Under Armour All-American Senior Game also went down to the wire. Erin Bakes (USC) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to clinch a 10-9 victory for the South over the North

Charlie Rudy (Colorado) scored three goals and added an assist to help the South’s cause. 

In the girls' underclass finals at Towson, New Jersey took home the Command title on an overtime game-winner McKenzie Blake (five goals) to down Washington D.C. Also, Long Island edged out New England 14-9 in the Highlight final thanks to another MVP performance from Kasey Choma. 

4. The Upstate Pride pulled off a late win over the New York Fight in Saturday’s WPLL matchup at Hofstra. Shayna Pirreca scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Olivia Hompe with 1:07 to seal the 10-9 victory.

Ally Carey tallied a hat trick to lead the Pride, which needed every goal to stop WPLL rookie Kylie Ohlmiller, who had three goals and two assists.

5. Utah is in. The school officially added lacrosse as part of its Division I athletic program over the weekend. Coach Brian Holman and his program will continue to build toward making its debut against Vermont in 2019.

6. Holy Cross announced Friday that it was promoting assistant Peter Burke interim head coach. The move comes after a season in which former coach Judd Lattimore was placed on administrative leave during the season following an incident where he had players run wind sprints during halftime of a game against Brown.

Burke spent three seasons as an assistant with Holy Cross before taking over as interim.

7. The Lakota West community is mourning the loss of Matt Stratman, the 15-year-old lacrosse player who died Saturday, weeks after collapsing during a game on June 9.

Stratman’s battle inspired those around Lakota West and surrounding schools. Rest in peace, Matt.
