1. It was the luck of the Irish on Saturday, as Notre Dame’s upset of Virginia highlighted the weekend of Division I women’s lacrosse. In the US Lacrosse Magazine Game of the Week, Andi Aldave delivered the game-winning goal with 1:30 left to give the No. 17 Irish the 10-9 win over the No. 6 Cavaliers in Charlottesville.

We also had a number of milestones reached in the women’s lacrosse world on Saturday, with Megan Taylor getting save No. 600 in Maryland’s 16-1 win over Ohio State, Joe Spallina picking up win No. 200 after Stony Brook downed Cornell and Acacia Walker-Weinstein notching win No. 100 as Boston College blew out Georgetown.

And on Sunday, Virginia Tech upset No. 13 Denver 15-14 on an overtime game-winner from Sara Goodwin.

2. Yale freshman Matt Brandau had his breakout performance on Saturday in a top 3 matchup against Cornell. He dropped six goals to lead the Bulldogs to the 16-11 victory over their Ivy League rival.

Also notable on Saturday, both Syracuse and Virginia had comeback victories at home. The Orange scored the final five goals to fuel a major comeback victory over Adam Charalambides and Rutgers, and the Cavaliers erased a 10-5 deficit to beat Notre Dame 13-11. 

Duke and Towson met in a Top 10 battle, with the Blue Devils finding a spark late and pulling away for the 12-10 victory.

Sunday, North Carolina picked up another win, downing Cleveland State 15-9 at Tierney Field.

3. The Mustang Classic featured some of the best teams in Division III over the weekend. After No. 4 RIT took down No. 5 York on Friday, it battled No. 2 Amherst in the other marquee matchup on Saturday.

Amherst erased a five-goal deficit and survived a thriller with RIT, taking home the 17-16 victory and ending the Tigers' 30-game regular season win streak. The Mammoths trailed 12-7 at halftime, but dropped 10 second-half goals to fuel a huge comeback. Jack Norton scored the game-winner with 3:47 left to give Amherst its biggest win in the 2019 season.

Also notable at the Mustang Classic, defending national champions Wesleyan went 2-0, with victories over Middlebury and Lynchburg.

4. The Georgia Swarm are headed to the 2019 NLL Playoffs. The Swarm clinched its spot in the playoffs with a 15-14 victory over the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday. Shayne Jackson had five goals and four assists to lead the Swarm.

Elsewhere in the NLL, the San Diego Seals got the best of the Philadelphia Wings in a matchup of the league’s newest franchises. Dan Dawson had five goals and two assists to pull the Seals back from down 10-7 in the fourth quarter. San Diego scored six of seven goals in the final minutes to come back. The Seals top the Western Division with a 7-4 record.

Buffalo, which already clinched a playoff spot, pushed its leading-leading record to 11-3 with a 12-11 win over Saskatchewan. Shawn Evans led the way with two goals and four assists.
