Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. ESPNU will re-air several 2019 NCAA lacrosse tournament games Friday. Here’s the schedule (all times Eastern):
1 p.m. - Maryland vs. Towson (Men’s First Round)
3 p.m. - Yale vs. Penn (Men’s Quarterfinal)
5 p.m. - Notre Dame vs. Duke (Men’s Quarterfinal)
7 p.m. - Maryland vs. Virginia (Men’s Quarterfinal)
9 p.m. - Virginia vs. Duke (Men’s Semifinal)
11 p.m. - Boston College vs. Maryland (Women’s Final)
2. The NCAA Board of Governors decided to move toward allowing student-athlete compensation, specifically as it relates to endorsements and promotions — a development that could affect the lacrosse industry and visibility of college athletes.
3. Bronx Lacrosse is raising money to feed its families during the COVID-19 pandemic. “A lot of people were struggling before,” founder Dan Leventhal said. “ It’s pretty scary not knowing where your next meal is coming from.
4. Yale’s Konrad Collins saved a man’s life Monday by administering CPR outside his Oregon home. A sophomore midfielder for the Bulldogs, Collins helped resuscitate the man, who had collapsed on the street, before paramedics arrived with a defibrillator. The man is recovering in a local hospital.
5. “We will wait for you,” Denver women’s lacrosse coach Liza Kelly reassured the high school Class of 2022 in an open letter Wednesday. “When you can retake the field, we will be there.”
Several recruiting events have been canceled due to the pandemic, which could be costly for rising juniors who had hoped to use the summer season to impress college coaches. “We will do our homework,” Kelly wrote, identifying Sept. 1 as the start of correspondence.
