Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Rob Pannell has been working hard at the Tone House, a fitness studio that he labeled the best workout in all of New York City.
He and many other lacrosse stars, including the women’s national team’s Laura Zimmerman, are regulars at the Tone House, which preaches dynamic movements in lieu of lifting weights.
“It got me back to that college atmosphere of being back in the weight room with your teammates,” Pannell said of the workouts. “That's part of what drew me back to it. … It’s the toughest workout in New York City by far. You can't replicate it on your own because you can’t push yourself that much.”
Pannell and the U.S. men’s national training team will take the field at US Lacrosse Headquarters this weekend for the Team USA Fall Classic. The U.S. will face 2017 final four teams Maryland and Towson.
2. The Canadian Lacrosse Association announced the rest of Team Canada's coaching staff for the 2018 FIL World Championships in Netanya, Israel. Coaching alongside Randy Mearns will be offensive coordinator Matt Brown, defensive coordinator Taylor Wray and assistants Merrick Thompson, Mark Miyashita and Jason Levesque.
Brown (Denver assistant) and Wray return from the 2014 staff that took home the gold medal, while Thompson makes the jump from the U19 team to the men's squad. Miyashita, who recently took over for Mearns at Canisius, will be making his international coaching debut.
3. The Lacrosse Communities Project launched in Cleveland last month, culminating with a field unveiling at Urban Community School in the Ohio City neighborhood on the West side. Many of Cleveland’s most prominent figures, including Mayor Frank Jackson, were in attendance to christen the field.
Check out the highlights and best images from the ceremony on Sept. 15 and read up on what the initiative hopes to gain in the budding lacrosse city of Cleveland.
3. Fred Opie is back with another edition of his podcast. This time, he talks the release of his new book, Start with Your Gift, which dives into his lacrosse career and also serves up career advice.
