Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. There’s a new No. 1 in women’s lacrosse. After Boston College’s loss to North Carolina in the ACC championship, Maryland takes over the top spot in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20.
Catch the rest of the rankings as conference tournaments approach.
2. Johns Hopkins was a big mover in the men’s rankings, shooting up to No. 15 after downing Maryland at College Park. The Terps fell to No. 7 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20. Penn is also a riser in the rankings.
Here are the rest of the men's rankings:
3. Cue the coaching carousel.
Delaware announced Monday night that it parted ways with women's lacrosse coach Kateri Linville, who led the Blue Hens for nine seasons. Linville finishes her Delaware career with a 79-75 record after going 7-10 on the 2019 season.
4. If we sound like a broken record, it's because TD Ierlan keeps breaking NCAA records.
Yale’s faceoff star won the Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week award last week, and followed with an NCAA single-game record 26-for-26 performance against Harvard on Saturday.
As a result, he’s a back-to-back Player of the Week nominee.
5. Samantha Mehalick had a game she’ll never forget on Saturday. She dropped 11 goals, including a free position game-winner with 17 seconds left, to boost Marist to the 15-14 victory over Manhattan in the MAAC quarters.
Her total was one shy of an NCAA-record 12 goals in a game. It was a performance worthy of Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.
6. The Premier Lacrosse League has its teams set. The schedule is full. Next up? The jersey reveal. The league dropped each jersey design, created by Adidas.
