Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. TD Ierlan goes No. 1 overall to the New York Lizards.
The greatest faceoff man in NCAA history was drafted first overall in the 2020 MLL Collegiate Draft, held virtually on Monday night. Virginia’s Michael Kraus went second overall to the Connecticut Hammerheads, followed by Utah’s Colin Burke to the Lizards at No. 3.
It was a Yale-heavy draft, with five Bulldogs hearing their names called. Check out the full draft list now.
The draft also welcomed the addition of honorary draft picks, allowing the league and individual teams to feature those working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Check out more on the initiative.
2. It was a Syracuse sweep in the Nike/US Lacrosse Virtual Tournament Championships.
The Syracuse women went down to the wire with ACC rival Notre Dame, with the teams separated by a percent in voting entering the final minutes. The Orange came away with the victory after over 20,000 fans voted. More on the Virtual Women's Tournament champions.
On the men’s side, the No. 1 seed cruised to the Virtual Tournament championship victory over defending NCAA champion Virginia. Read up on the road to the title for the Orange.
3. Former UNC player Peter Murphy penned an inspiring letter to his Latin School of Chicago team.
Murphy, who was stabbed and nearly died during his senior season in 1987, talked to his team about overcoming adversity. Read the letter here.
4. Tom Schreiber gets deep on Overtime.
Schreiber, one of the best players on Earth, shares with Paul Carcaterra what motivates him and why he won't allow any Michael Sowers hate. Check it out now.
