Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. It’s that time again. The early rankings are here.
The 2021 season was anything but normal. Coming off the heels of an abruptly canceled 2020 spring season, COVID-19 protocols, restricted scheduling and other factors forced the lacrosse community to expect the unexpected — or maybe expect nothing at all.
USA Lacrosse Magazine is back to its annual exercise — the Early Top 25. Every day this week, we'll break down a five-team segment, determining where the power lies in lacrosse.
We started with Nos. 25-21 yesterday from longtime contributor Patrick Stevens. On the men’s side, Michigan and Towson check in tied at No. 25, while High Point (24), Villanova (23), Richmond (22) and Bryant (21) follow.
On the women’s side, an upstart UConn team with offensive potential is No. 25, followed by Michigan (24), Penn State (23), Richmond (22) and Louisville (21).
2. Another Athletes Unlimited pro has been hired at Richmond.
Not long after interim head coach Anne Harrington announced the addition of Kady Glynn to her staff, the Spiders announced the hiring of Florida great Lindsey Ronbeck, who had spent the last two seasons at American.
Ronbeck, a Long Island native, will work with the Spiders’ potent offense.
3. Brad Smith is more than a mustache.
What started as a “Movember” fundraiser 10 years ago has turned into a style of choice for the Whipsnakes LC midfielder. Phil Shore writes about how Smith, who’s blossoming as a pro, could become one of the best midfielders in pro lacrosse in short order.
