Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Midseason roster additions have bolstered Boston and Long Island, who will meet today in the UWLX championship game in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Storm enter at just 2-4, but scored a semifinal win over Philadelphia thanks in part to recent Boston College grads Kayla O'Connor and Kate Weeks. Boston University grad Caroline Meegan got the start in the Sound's semifinal win over Baltimore. Long Island is the defending champion.

2. Another significant trade highlighted National Lacrosse League news for a second consecutive week. Colorado acquired former No. 1 overall pick Matt Benesch from Buffalo in exchange for forward Callum Crawford and goalie Alex Buque.

3. The Fred Opie Show visits with father and son Ed and Chazz Woodson. Ed played lacrosse and football at Middlebury, and Chazz played at Brown before moving on to Major League Lacrosse. Opie is an author and former player for Syracuse and Team USA.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Just a few months after leading the St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) girls' team to its first state championship game, coach Samantha MacGurdy has been told she will not return, reports The Sun Sentinel. St. Thomas Aquinas finished No. 4 in the Nike/US Lacrosse South Region Top 10.

• Hearst Connecticut Media named Darien (Conn.) defender Logan Book its girls' lacrosse MVP. She helped the Blue Wave win three state championships.

• The Milford Daily News spotlights former Framingham (Mass.) stars Abbey Capobianco and Tanner Guarino, who will try to help the Boston Storm win today's UWLX championship game. Capobianco is in her first season as coach, while Guarino is in her second season as a midfielder on the team.

• WV Metro News reports out of Wheeling, W.Va., that a civil jury has awarded the family of the late Wheeling Jesuit men's player Kevin Figaniak $3 million in compensatory and punitive damages as a result of incidents that led to Figaniak's death four years ago. The jury laid much of the blame on former teammate Tyler Johnson. Sad story.

Three-time Tewaaraton Award winner, and now two-time World Champion, Taylor Cummings was a popular presenter at the 2017 US Lacrosse Convention. LaxCon returns to Baltimore Jan. 19-21, 2018, and registration is expected to begin shortly after Labor Day.
