Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. ESPN’s Anish Shroff debuted as the newest US Lacrosse Magazine contributor Tuesday. Among the topics he tackled in his first column: taking the long view on February results, the actors best suited to portray your favorite college coaches and a top-10 list in which Ohio State stands out.
2. The Rumble on the Runway, a National Lacrosse League game scheduled to take place Feb. 22 on the flight line of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, has been relocated to the San Diego Seals’ home arena due to the coronavirus quarantine at the base. The game against the Vancouver Warriors was set to become the first-ever professional sports event on an active Marine base.
“While disappointed that we’re unable to host this historic event, we understand the dedication to the mission at hand,” Seals president Steve Govett said in a statement.
“All of us were looking forward to what would have been a breakthrough event,” said Col. Charles Dockery, commanding officer of MCAS Miramar. “But our mission in support of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control is our top priority and the best way for us to serve the interests of our nation.”
3. Major League Lacrosse unveiled Tuesday a new team in Connecticut called the Hammerheads, which will be coached by former Dallas Rattlers coach Bill Warder and presumably will be comprised of the former Rattlers roster.
The announcement came less than 24 hours after the news that MLL would cease operations of the franchise in Dallas, though it is reserving the Rattlers brand for a potential return to the market in the future.
4. The Premier Lacrosse League announced Tuesday that it will play its Week 6 games in Minnesota. The July 11-12 games will take place at Viking Lakes, homeo of the Minnesota Vikings training facility in Eagan, Minn.
It’s a Seawolves kind of week, eh?
