Eight teams remain in the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament.

They include four blue bloods in Gettysburg, RIT, Salisbury and Tufts, three teams that have been knocking on the door in Christopher Newport, Union and York.

And then there’s Bowdoin, the surprise team of the 2022 season which will play in the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in program history after defeating St. Lawrence 17-12 in a third-round game Sunday at Whittier Field in Brunswick, Maine.

Hosting an NCAA tournament game for the first time in program history, Bowdoin beat Colorado College 23-8 on Saturday and kept the history going Sunday with a 17-12 win over St. Lawrence. The Polar Bears scored six unanswered goals spanning the first and second quarters in their third-round win, which propelled them to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time. ...

Christopher Newport cruised past Sewanee 29-5 and Wesleyan 21-5, as Dylan Rice became the first player in school history to eclipse 100 points in a season. The Captains’ defense proved especially disruptive in the round-of-16 win over the Cardinals, causing 22 of Wesleyan’s 26 turnovers. Ryan Young had five caused turnovers and nine ground balls. …

Led by first-year coach Peter Toner, Gettysburg won its first NCAA tournament game since 2018 with a 14-8 victory over Lynchburg on Saturday. Twenty-four hours later, the Bullets beat Dickinson for the first time in three tries this season, Aidan Wykoff scored a career-high four goals in a 17-7 win over the Red Devils, which came eight days after a heartbreaking loss to Dickinson in overtime in the Centennial Conference final. ...

Defending NCAA champion RIT zipped past Albion and MIT and will host a set of quarterfinals. The attack unit of Luke Pilcher, Spencer Bell and Quinn Commandant combined for 13 points in the Tigers’ 22-3 blowout of MIT. RIT has reached the quarterfinals 17 times, played in 11 national semifinal games and advanced to the national championship game in 2013, 2017 and 2021. ...

Cross Ferrara scored six goals and added two assists, as Salisbury defeated Cabrini 13-8 in a third-round game Sunday after throttling Stockton a day earlier. The Sea Gulls trailed 4-1 early and it was tied at 5 late in the second quarter before Salisbury scored three goals in the final four minutes, including two in the last 34 seconds before halftime. It gave them the lead for good. ...

Tufts scored 55 goals in two games. Sounds about right for the Jumbos. Tufts’ 33 goals against Norwich in its opener were a new school record. Mac Bredahl had two goals and six assists. Bredahl was even better Sunday, factoring in 12 goals (four goals, eight assists) as the Jumbos eased past St. John Fisher 22-8. His 136 points (67 goals, 69 assists) this season are the most in school history. Bredahl surpassed John Uppgren (131 points in 2016) and also became the Jumbos' single-season assists leader. ...

Union withstood a 90-minute weather delay and looked no worse for the wear Sunday, scoring the first seven goals in a 21-11 victory over Western New England to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in program history. Peter Burnes scored a career-high seven goals and added two assists in the win, the Dutchmen’s program-record 16th triumph of the season. ...

York scored 14 unanswered goals, shutting out Denison for two quarters and blowing out the Big Red 16-4 in the round of 16. Jack Grayson set career highs with five assists — four of which came during an eight-goal second quarter — and seven points. The Spartans have won 17 straight games, a program record, since losing consecutive games in March to RIT and Salisbury.
