St. John’s College High (D.C.) held off Gonzaga to claim the WCAC crown, complete a perfect season and seal its spot at the top of the most recent Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25. A preseason Top 25, Don Bosco (N.J.) has come storming back from an opening-day loss to play its way back into the rankings as did Northport (N.Y.) which has won 15 straight since a bad opening-day loss to new No. 2 Mt. Sinai (N.Y.), which jumps Brunswick (Conn) after they lost for the first time.

The Senior Day ceremonies, for the most part, have come and gone in the Northeast. Now, it’s
playoff lacrosse and no team in the Northeast has looked more impressive from start to finish of
the regular season than Mt. Sinai (N.Y.). The Mustangs remain undefeated after a convincing win over previously unbeaten Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.). Brunswick’s first loss of the year opened the door for Mt. Sinai to ascend to No. 1 in the region.

St. John’s leads the way in the Mid-Atlantic Region while the MIAA A Conference semifinals kick off this week that could shift rankings further. Bullis (Md.) remained on a big streak and got by Georgetown (Md.) for an IAC title that holds significant weight. Malvern Prep (Pa.) gears up for its league championships and Don Bosco knocked down Ridgewood (N.J.) to slide up to No. 10 with a bevy of teams fighting behind it as Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey postseasons are arriving.

The South Region had minimal movement with many teams already finished their seasons. Lovett (Ga.) though climbed up to No. 5 on the strength of its unbeaten run to the state title. They are the only perfect team in the Top 10. Middle Creek (N.C.) moved up too with a head-to-head win over Holly Springs (N.C.) in the state playoffs.

The Midwest Region remained exactly the same top to bottom. Culver Academy (Ind.) cemented its spot at the top with a victory in the inaugural Premier Prep Classic championship. Ohio and Michigan teams are set to begin state tournament play and that could shuffle the rankings over the next couple of weeks.

The West Region looks different after a week of California playoffs. Corona del Mar (Calif.) earned a section title and the new No. 1 rankings in the region with Mater Dei (Calif.) falling in a semifinal game, and Corona del Mar beating Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) head to head. Torrey Pines (Calif.) played their way back into the rankings with a playoff run. Colorado playoffs begin with the chance for those teams to impress.

In his final regular season home game, Joey Spallina had three goals and six assists, moving to within 18 points of becoming Long Island’s all-time leading scorer, Cole Marsala scored four goals, James Carretta and Jake Spallina added two goals apiece and Brayden Wilcken made 11 saves in a 12-7 win over rival Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.) that clinched the top spot in the Suffolk Class C playoffs. 2. Brunswick School (Conn.), 13-1

The Bruins’ first loss of the season came in their regular season finale, 10-9, to Salisbury School (Conn.) after head coach David Bruce picked up his 200th career win in an 11-4 victory over Avon Old Farms (Conn.). Next up is the Prep Nationals, featuring host Brunswick, Deerfield Academy (Mass.), Salisbury School and The Lawrenceville School (N.J.). Previous: 1

3. Darien (Conn.), 13-2

The high-flying Blue Wave are firing on all cylinders as they get ready for the FCIAC tournament. After a 20-5 win at St Joseph (Conn.), Darien defeated Fairfield-Ludlowe (Conn.) 16-6. Wyatt Bowman, Brady Pokorny and Joe Cesare each netted a hat trick, Matthew Minicus had two goals and three assists and Christian Allegro had one goal and three assists. The Blue Wave close out the regular season at Greenwich (Conn.) before the FCIAC starts May 21. Previous: 3

4. St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), 13-2

The Friars rebounded from a stunning loss at Darien to cruise past St. John the Baptist (N.Y.), St. Mary’s (N.Y.) and St. Dominic (N.Y.) by a combined score of 48-2. Next up is the NSCHSAA Class AAA title game against Chaminade (N.Y.). It is round three with St. Anthony’s winning the two regular season meetings — a nine-goal win at Chaminade in mid-April and a one-goal home win earlier this month. Previous: 4

5. Victor (N.Y.), 15-0

Are the Blue Devils the favorite to win the New York State Class B title? Victor continued to roll on with another defensive masterclass in a 14-9 win over host Fayetteville-Manlius (N.Y.) that saw the Blue Devils only give up two goals in each of the first two quarters, none in the third and take a 14-4 lead early in the fourth quarter. Louie Germain and Cam Ryan anchored the defensive effort. Previous: 6

6. Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.), 15-1

Shoreham-Wading River coach Mike Taylor said there’s a bit of Chris Gray and Xavier Arline in sophomore Liam Kershis. The sophomore looked like the real deal with two goals and two assists, while Alec Gregorek had two goals and one assist, Liam Gregorek had a goal and an assist and Jayden Galfano made 14 saves in a 12-7 loss to Mt. 7. Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.), 13-1

The Seahawks are another team riding a rock-solid defense to a regular season that includes wins at Garden City (N.Y.), Manhasset (N.Y.), Yorktown (N.Y.) and most recently, a 4-2 home victory over South Side (N.Y.). Patrick Pisano leads the aggressive and athletic poles, joined by Jesse Phelan, while Spencer Will is one of the top goaltenders in Nassau County. Cold Spring Harbor, arguably the favorite to win the New York State Class D title, has a scoring defense that averages just 5.1 goal per game. Previous: 7

8. Chaminade (N.Y.), 12-4

The Flyers are playing their best lacrosse at the right time, heading into a title tilt with archrival St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) having won three in a row, including a 15-11 victory over Salesanium (Del.) to conclude the regular season. Charles Balsamo had five goals and two assists and Gary Correa added three goals and three assists. That came after a 17-8 win over Manhasset (N.Y.) in Reg’s Rock. Previous: 10

9. Garden City (N.Y.), 12-2

The Trojans have won six in a row since consecutive defeats to Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) and Mt. Sinai (N.Y.). That includes a 14-3 victory over Long Beach (N.Y.). Luke Schmitt had four goals and two assists, Jack Archer had two goals and three assists and Jay Ottomanelli added a pair of goals for Garden City, the top seed in the Nassau Class B playoffs. Massapequa is riding an 11-game winning streak heading into a regular season finale against Valley Stream (N.Y.). In a feisty affair against Syosset (N.Y.), Jack DeTommasso had three goals, Adam Christie had a trio of assists, Matt Jannotte made 17 saves in the 9-8 road win. MID-ATLANTIC TOP 10

1. St. John’s College High (D.C.), 19-0

The Cadets earned their first WCAC championship since 2017 with a 15-11 win over Gonzaga (D.C.) on May 9. St. John’s pulled away from a 7-7 tie game at halftime. Ryan Duenkel scored six goals to pace the offense. The win was just the third this season by four goals or fewer and concludes a perfect season for St. John’s, which more than tripled their opponents this season in scoring, 310-98, while playing a competitive schedule. Previous: 1

2. Calvert Hall (Md.), 14-4

The third-seeded Cardinals advanced to the MIAA A Conference semifinals with a 12-9 win over sixth-seeded Severn (Md.). Davis Provost scored four times and Truitt Sunderland had a hat trick while Jordan Wray fired in two goals. Sunderland also added an assist. Wyatt Hottle scored once and had two assists, and Brady Stangle made eight saves. Calvert Hall had wrapped up the No. 3 seed for the playoffs with a 12-8 win over Loyola Blakefield (Md.). 3. Boys’ Latin (Md.), 13-3

The Lakers captured the top seed for the MIAA A Conference playoffs as well as a first-round bye after coming back to knock off St. Paul’s (Md.) 13-12 on May 10 to finish the regular season. Boys’ Latin tied St. Mary’s with an 8-2 league record but won the head-to-head matchup to take the tiebreaker for seedings. The Lakers open up defense of their conference crown May 17 against McDonogh (Md.). Previous: 3

4. St. Mary’s (Md.) 16-2

The Saints got back on track to take the second seed for the MIAA A Conference playoffs with a 9-8 comeback win over Severn (Md.) on May 10. St. Mary’s has a first-round bye and will face Calvert in the semifinals May 17. A win would send them to the finals May 20. Previous: 4

5. Bullis (Md.) 14-4

The Bulldogs captured their fourth IAC trophy in the last six seasons with an 8-7 win over defending champion Georgetown Prep (Md.) on May 13. The win is their ninth straight since last falling on April 2. Anthony Rinaldi scored the team’s final goal with 3:52 left for an 8-6 lead and the defense allowed just one more tally before celebrating the championship and the big turnaround this season. Bullis defeated fifth-seeded Episcopal (Va.) 14-8 in the semifinals May 10. Previous: 6

6. McDonogh (Md.), 11-6

The fifth-seeded Eagles upset fourth-seeded Archbishop Spalding (Md.) in the MIAA A Conference quarterfinals 12-10 on May 13. McCabe Millon was prolific with five goals and three assists, younger brother Brendan Millon came through with two goals and two assists, and Jonny Cool set the tone for a defense that helped the Eagles get out to a 9-4 lead in the fourth quarter. McDonogh held a 6-3 lead at halftime. The Eagles closed the regular season with a 15-8 win over Gilman (Md.). The victory sealed up the fifth seed. McDonogh faces top-seeded Boys’ Latin (Md.) in the semifinals May 17. Previous: 9

7. Georgetown Prep (Md.), 14-6

The Hoyas fell to top-seeded Bullis in the IAC final. Georgetown made it far closer than their meeting 10 days earlier when Bullis won by five goals. The Hoyas got two shots off in the final 25 seconds but could not score a tying goal. Georgetown was coming off a tight IAC semifinal game over second-seeded Landon (Md.) 7-6. Previous: 7

8. Malvern Prep (Pa.), 18-3

The Friars played one of the top schools from neighboring New Jersey, Seton Hall Prep (N.J.), and came away with a 7-6 overtime win. Malvern was coming off a 14-6 win over Springside Chestnut Hill (Pa.). They opened the week with an 11-9 win over Penn Charter (Pa.) with Ennis Udo providing a hat trick, Joe Doherty making 13 saves and Liam Timmins and Joe Sheridan each scoring twice and adding one helper apiece. 9. Archbishop Spalding (Md.), 12-5

The fourth-seeded Cavaliers lost to fifth-seeded McDonogh in the MIAA A Conference quarterfinals. Spalding trailed 6-3 at halftime and was down 9-4 in the fourth quarter before staging a furious rally to trim the deficit to 10-9. Ryan Schrier finished with a hat trick and Nick Gutierrez scored twice and added an assist. Spalding earlier defeated Mount St. Joseph (Md.) 12-5 to conclude regular-season play. Previous: 5

10. Don Bosco (N.J.), 12-1

Don Bosco opened the season with a shocking one-goal loss to Ridgewood (N.J.). Since then, the Ironmen have reeled off 12 straight wins including a decisive 14-6 win over Ridgewood on May 10 in the rematch, this time for the Bergen County Tournament title. The defense did its part in front of Colton Carfello, who had 16 saves. The offense was led by Princeton commit Mark Marino, who had his biggest game of the season with four goals and three assists. Johns Hopkins-bound Koleton Marquis had four points on a hat trick and assist, Mason Carfello also had four points on a pair of goals and pair of assists, and Connor Gorman had two goals and an assist. 1. Dallas Jesuit (Texas), 14-2

The Rangers rallied to defeat Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas) 11-10 in the state title game May 8. Dallas Jesuit defended its 2021 title and earned the fourth crown in program history. Penn State recruit McAllister Hobbs led Dallas Jesuit with 59 goals while goalie Connor Knight had a .628 save percentage. Previous: 1

2. St. Andrew’s (Fla.), 20-3

The Scots earned their second-straight state championship, topping Benjamin (Fla.) 9-7 on May 7. Junior Jack Schulte, an Air Force recruit, led the team with 60 goals and 53 assists. Senior Nick Golubov picked up 118 ground balls and won 63% of draws. Previous: 2

3. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), 16-3

The Raiders avenged their 2019 championship game loss to Ponte Vedra (Fla.) by defeating the Sharks 13-12 to win a state title. Senior Trace McDonald had a team-leading 76 points while head 38 goals. Previous: 3

4. Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas), 20-4

The Eagles gave up a three-goal lead to Dallas Jesuit (Texas), falling in the state championship 11-10 on May 8. ESD’s season was highlighted with multiple wins over Westlake (Texas), Lake Mary (Fla.) and Valor Christian (Colo.). Previous: 4

5. Lovett (Ga.), 23-0

It was a perfect season for the Lions. Lovett went from a losing campaign a year ago to a 23-0 season after defeating Westminster (Ga.) 14-7 on May 14 to claim a state title. William Overly and Mason Ball each scored four times in the championship.  Lovett also beat Starr’s Mill (Ga.) 11-6 en route to the championship game. Previous: 8

6. Westlake (Texas), 13-4

The Chapperals closed out their season with a heartbreaking 13-12 overtime loss to Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas) in the semifinals. Westlake finished the season 13-2 against in-state competition, with both losses coming against ESD. Westlake will lose several key seniors, including Ethan Burke who is committed to Texas football and Michigan recruit Carter Barksdale. Previous: 6

7. Benjamin (Fla.), 18-4

After starting the season off with a loss to St. Andrew’s (Fla.), the Buccaneers were unable to get revenge against the Scots in the state championship on May 7. Benjamin’s season was highlighted with wins over St. Edward’s (Fla.) and Jupiter (Fla.). Tufts University recruit Jack Regnery led in scoring with 54 tallies while junior Brady Quinn had a team-leading 52 assists. Previous: 7

8. Middle Creek (N.C.), 21-2

After splitting the season series against Holly Springs (N.C.), the Mustangs answered with a 17-7 victory over the Golden Hawks to advance to the state quarterfinals. There, Middle Creek took care of business by defeating Green Level (N.C.) 12-4. Collin Patrick scored four goals in each of the wins as Middle Creek advances to the state semifinals to face Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) in the state semifinals. Previous: NR

9. Holly Springs (N.C.), 16-3

The Golden Hawks fell in the round of 16 to Middle Creek (N.C.) 17-7 last week. Holly Springs’ only two in-state losses were against the Mustangs. Holly Springs was led by Wade Watson, who scored 56 goals during the season, but was held to one tally against Middle Creek. Previous: 5

10. Plant (Fla.), 18-3

The Panthers’ season ended in the state semifinals in back-to-back seasons with a 12-10 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.). Plant has yet to win a state title. Junior Turner Ashby, an Air Force recruit, had a team-leading 45 goals and 34 assists. Previous: 9

1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 17-2

The Eagles emerged triumphant at the inaugural Premier Prep Championship with a 20-6 victory over host Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) and a 13-8 win over Hill Academy (Ont.). Tack that on to last week's MSL A Tournament title and it's clear Culver is the best of the Midwest. Previous: 1

2. St. Ignatius (Ohio), 11-6

The Wildcats have enjoyed a significant break since closing out the season against steep competition at the MSLA Tournament May 7. After earning the top seed in Ohio's Region 2, St. Ignatius' postseason journey starts with a May 16 home game against Boardman or Cleveland Heights. Previous: 2

3. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 16-1

The Golden Bears delivered a 3-0 week, including out-of-state victories over Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) and Mars Area (Penn.). Keeper Tyler Burkhart played particularly well over the trio of wins. Previous: 3

4. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 14-3

The Ramblers were tested on the road but managed to prevail 7-5 at Glenbard West (Ill.). Loyola then added a 15-7 victory over Warren Township (Ill.). The Ramblers hit the road this week with games at in-state foes Viator (Ill.) and Glenbrook North (Ill.). Previous: 4

5. MICDS (Mo.), 15-1

The Rams enter the postseason having not lost a game since April 15, when they fell to one of the region's top teams in Upper Arlington (Ohio). MICDS closed the regular season with a 17-3 win over Eureka (Mo.), including an 11-0 first quarter, with Harry Kohler ending the game with 11 ground balls and Willy Carpenter and Bjorn Sjogren notching hat tricks. Previous: 5

6. Forest Hills Central (Mich.), 15-0

The Rangers weren't pleased with a lackluster defensive performance in a 10-9 win over Midland (Mich.) and came back the next day with a ferocious effort against undefeated Clarkston (Mich.) for a 16-3 win. That included six goals and three assists from John Tomsheck, five goals from Jonah McConnell and a superb defensive game. Previous: 6

7. Hudson (Ohio), 11-6

The Explorers bounced back from a tough loss to the Midwest's top team, Culver Academy (Ind.), with a high-scoring victory over Chagrin Falls (Ohio) and an admirably close loss to IMG Academy (Fla.). Previous: 7

8. Brother Rice (Mich.) 11-5

Ben Eck contributed a hat trick and Christian McNulty and Luke Washe added two goals apiece, including an absurd McNulty behind-the-back goal, to capture the Catholic League championship May 13. Previous: 8

9. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 14-2

The Celtics finished their regular season in fine form with a 17-9 victory over St. Xavier (Ohio). They also got to celebrate junior Marek Tzagournis becoming the program's all-time leading scorer just 40 games into his career. Previous: 9

The Tigers got their postseason off to a smashing start, topping Atherton (Ky.) and Louisville Collegiate (Ky.) by a combined score of 43-1. Previous: 10

1. Corona del Mar (Calif.), 19-3

The Sea Kings won their first CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship May 13, downing Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) 10-4 in the final as defenseman Tyler Brown had a team-high four ground balls and goalie Grant Giuliano made seven saves. Lucas Newton finished with a hat trick to lead the attack, and Nicolas Peloso had two goals and an assist with both of his tallies coming in a five-goal fourth quarter for CdM. Giuliano also had 11 saves in a semifinal takedown of top-ranked Mater Dei (Calif.), a 9-5 win. The Kings avenged two of their three regular-season losses in the final four. Previous: 3

2. Mater Dei (Calif.), 17-4

The Monarchs’ season ended in the CIF Southern Section semifinals for a second straight year. They lost 9-5 to eventual champion Corona del Mar, despite junior Lucas de la Paz winning 14 of 16 faceoff and senior goalie Nick Colignon registering 10 saves. Reece Lapham led the offense with two goals. Mater Dei had beaten CdM during the regular season and also had a victory over runner-up Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.). Previous: 1

3. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.), 19-5

Foothill fell in the CIF Southern Section Division I championship game for a second straight year, unable to repeat a narrow regular-season victory against Corona del Mar. The Knights got two goals and an assist from Dean Pistone and Gavin Griswold also finished with two goals but that was all the attack could muster against the Sea Kings’ defense. Foothill had advanced with a 10-8 win over St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.) in the semifinals, as goalie Drew Tyson made a career-high 21 saves and Gavin Ahern recorded four goals and an assist. 4. Corner Canyon (Utah), 15-1

The Chargers were idle last week and get an extra two days off from action after earning a bye in the UHSAA/Mountain America Class 6A championship. They begin play in Round 2 on May 19 against Clearfield (Colo.) or Pleasant Grove (Colo.). Corner Canyon is unbeaten against in-state competition this year with its lone loss coming against Corona del Mar (Calif.), in overtime. Previous: 4

5. St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.), 19-2

The Tartans won 20 of 22 faceoffs in their CIF Southern Section semifinal but couldn’t finish enough opportunities in the attack and fell 10-8 to Foothill (Calif.). Jack Culley and Owen Binder each scored two goals for St. Margaret’s, which also outshot the Knights and had more groundballs. The Tartans’ lone loss was an overtime defeat against fellow semifinalist Mater Dei. Previous: 2

6. Regis Jesuit (Colo.), 14-2

The Raiders had a bye in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs as the top seed and opened their postseason with an 11-6 win over Denver East (Colo.) in the second round May 14. 7. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 12-7

The Falcons are back in the rankings on a three-game win streak going into their May 17 CIF San Diego Section Open Division semifinal against La Costa Canyon (Calif.). Torrey Pines opened the playoffs with a 20-4 win over San Marcos (Calif.) in the quarterfinals. The Falcons are 1-3 against West-ranked teams with a win over St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) and have three out-of-state losses to quality opponents in other regions. Previous: NR

8. St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.), 18-4

The top-seeded Wildcats breezed to a 24-2 win over St. Francis (Calif.) in the CIF Central Coast Section quarterfinals May 14 after a bye in the first round. St. Ignatius was coming off its third straight WCAL championship the week prior and now will face Menlo-Atherton (Calif.) in the CCS semifinals May 18. Previous: 5

9. Brophy Prep (Ariz.), 21-2

The Broncos claimed the Arizona state title with an 11-8 win over Desert Vista, as they went unbeaten against in-state competition. Their lone losses were against Mater Dei (Calif.) by one and Palo Verde (Nevada) in overtime. Previous: 8

10. Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.), 20-2
