Dox Aitken, a three-time USILA All-American, will forego his brief stint as a Villanova football player and return to the Virginia men’s lacrosse team, according to a report from Inside Lacrosse. Villanova wide receivers coach Nate Pagan confirmed the news to US Lacrosse Magazine’s Nelson Rice, citing the “uncertainty of everything.”

In a November interview with US Lacrosse Magazine, Aitken intimated that he was fully committed to Villanova as it sought to play football in the spring with the rest of the Colonial Athletic Association.

“The spring football season in any capacity would eliminate me going back to Virginia, so I’m not going to go back to Virginia and play lacrosse there this spring,” he said at the time.

His plans seemed to have changed, though. 

Aitken is Virginia’s record-holder for career goals as a midfielder (121) and is one of the most dynamic offensive middies in the country. In six games last season, he scored nine goals with one assist.

Virginia checked in at No. 5 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Preseason Top 20, which released Jan. 6. Lars Tiffany will certainly welcome back the program stalwart with open arms as the Cavaliers look to take down preseason No. 1 Duke and the rest of the ACC’s talented teams.
