In a statement provided to USA Lacrosse Magazine, Drexel University said that head women’s lacrosse coach Kim Hillier, who was hired this offseason to be the program’s new coach, is on a personal leave from the team.

“Kim Hillier, head women’s lacrosse coach at Drexel University, is on a personal leave,” the statement said. “Assistant coaches Katie O’Donnell and Alyssa Guido are coaching and will continue to lead the team throughout the NCAA Championships.”

Drexel did not provide a reason for the leave.

Hillier told USA Lacrosse Magazine that she is proud of how far her team has come this spring.

“I am so proud of the hard work my team has put in this year,” she said. “Winning the CAA championship and securing an automatic bid to compete in the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history has been a goal and is an incredible accomplishment. I am thrilled for my team.”

Hillier, a longtime Stony Brook assistant who also coached at Boston University, helped the team to a 12-7 record this season. She was not on the sidelines for the team’s first-ever conference championship victory, a win that clinched the team’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

Drexel will play eighth-seeded Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium in the first round on Friday at 3 p.m.
