It’s May Madness, which means we’re cranking the volume up to a fever pitch on USLaxMagazine.com.
Understanding that not all of our members have a 24-7 obsession with the sport, we rolled out a new content series this spring that provides the top stories, social media highlights and offbeat reading from around the lacrosse world. We’ve had a lot of fun compiling “Dialed In,” posted Monday-Friday at 8 a.m. Eastern on USLaxMagazine.com, and hopefully you have enjoyed the daily dose of crisp prose and sharp observations. You also can subscribe to our new weekly email newsletter to stay abreast on the latest in the sport.
After the college championships this month, we turn our attention to an important summer as it relates to the Olympic dream. The U.S. women’s team will vie for its third straight World Cup title, but in the bigger picture, its performance and that of the five other countries participating in the ensuing World Games could loom larger.
Talk about exposure. The IWGA’s 10-day event in Wroclaw, Poland, will attract 4,500 athletes from more than 100 countries competing in 25 sports. Dozens of Olympic governing bodies, including the IOC and national sport ministries, will see lacrosse for the first time. The Olympic Channel, a free over-the-top streaming service with DirecTV distribution, will deliver the sport to thousands more fans around the world.
It’s fitting that the U.S. women will be the ones to usher in this new era. You should see the way athletes from other nations gravitate toward them. One day, we will look back on this group as the pioneers who showed the world the beauty of our sport.
