For the first time in Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse history, none of the four squads made it through the weekend undefeated.

That means Kayla Wood is no longer undefeated, but her strong start to the inaugural season still has her near the top of the leaderboard. Checking in at No. 2 this week, Wood is within striking distance of Dempsey Arsenault, who leads the pack for the first time this season.

With two weekends left in the action, the competition is heating up. Here’s what happened in an exciting third weekend.

HERO BALL FROM GARRITY PARROS

Emily Garrity Parros clutched out a win for Team Read on Sunday, scoring the game-winner with under 10 seconds to play in a contest that Team Read appeared to be in control of before a late surge by Team Wood.

Early in the fourth quarter, Garrity Parros and Alyssa Parrella scored back-to-back goals to support captain Brittany Read, extending the lead to 10-6.

A quick two-pointer by Alex Aust on an empty-net free position put Team Wood back in the game, and Ally Kennedy eventually tied the score at 10 on a jumper.

But with nine seconds left and three seconds to shoot, Ella Simkins fouled Garrity Parros to send her to the line for a free position. She scored to notch a hat trick and give Team Read the lead with 6.8 seconds remaining.

Garrity Parros was fittingly named the game’s MVP, earning an additional 45 points.

JOHANSEN’S DEBUT

Amanda Johansen, a facilitator during the league’s first two weeks, made her on-field debut this weekend and earned 555 points — good enough for No. 43 on the leaderboard.

Johansen even earned a first-place MVP performance. Her stat line was balanced, too — two goals, two assists, five caused turnovers, nine ground balls and eight draw controls.

Playing for captain Kylie Ohlmiller on Team Purple, Johansen took the field midway through the AU season without missing a beat. The former USC star who was also a WPLL All-Star and a member of the U.S. women’s national training team even ripped a two-point goal on Sunday.

WEEKEND HIGHLIGHT

How did Cortney Fortunato even finish this? This might be the goal of the summer.
