In her first start at attack, Emma Tyrrell made a difference.
The sophomore from Mount Sinai, N.Y., was thrust into a more offensive role when Syracuse was struck by another ACL injury, this one to junior standout Megan Carney. Carney suffered the injury Thursday against Boston College (a 14-13 loss), meaning the Orange needed reinforcements for the rematch Saturday.
Tyrrell took charge, scoring six goals with one assist as Syracuse flipped the script in a 16-7 win over the Eagles. She did her damage on just seven shots. Tyrrell also controlled four draws and corralled a ground ball.
For her clutch performance, Tyrrell is the US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Player of the Week.
She scored twice in the 14-13 loss Thursday, giving her eight goals on the week.
