ATLANTA — Brigham Young has managed to keep hold of its preseason on the top spot in Week 1 of the New Balance MCLA Division I Coaches Poll, but the gap has narrowed significantly.

The Cougars still have the majority of first-place votes (15, down from 18 in the preseason), but instead of leading Georgia Tech by 37 points, they hold just a 14-point edge over No. 2 Cal.

The Golden Bears jumped into the second spot, bolstered by nine first-place votes. They are followed by the Rambling Wreck, who snagged the final three top votes.

Liberty remains at No. 4 and now has Boston College behind them in fifth. The Eagles jumped up seven spots from their preseason ranking.

Florida was another big mover this week, jumping from No. 21 to No. 9 after a 4-0 start.
