A big showdown changed the Top 3 in an otherwise rather tame week for the Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ National Top 25.

Last week’s No. 3 team, Glenelg Country Day (Md.), pulled away from St. Paul’s School for Girls (Md.) 20-7, and the decisive win allows the Dragons to flip spots with last year’s reigning No. 1 that had won 18 straight games but is battling back from injury woes. Glenelg’s only loss this season in the competitive MIAA A Conference came early in the year at the hands of Archbishop Spalding (Md.).

Sayville (N.Y.) is the lone new team in the National Top 25. The Golden Flashes have worked their way into the Northeast’s Top 10 with solid wins and a couple respectable losses. A week after a ton of movement in the Northeast, things settled down a bit this week with the top teams all winning comfortably, while Northport (N.Y.) narrowly avoided a second consecutive loss to a Connecticut foe by beating Wilton (Conn.) in triple overtime.

The Mid-Atlantic region has a different look in its Top 5, with Glenelg Country moving to the top. Bryn Mawr (Md.) also shook up the rankings with a wild win over previous No. 4 Archbishop Spalding (Md.). The Mawrtians played the final 13 minutes of the game without a goalie due to an equipment infraction. Their win allowed unbeatens like Glenelg High (Md.) and Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) to slide up while Bryn Mawr also climbs.

Playoff action is heating up in the South Region, and this week will go a long way toward seeing if rankings change as teams get deeper into their championship chases. No team changed positions with every Top 10 team going unbeaten last week led by American Heritage-Delray (Fla.), Steinbrenner (Fla.) and Hockaday (Texas).

In the Midwest, another top team took a tumble with former No. 2 East Grand Rapids (Mich.) losing for the first time. There remains a balance of teams capable of knocking each other off behind front-runner Upper Arlington (Ohio) which has remained perfect through multiple challenges.

Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) took over the top spot in the West Region after Colorado Academy (Colo.) lost for the first time in-state in years. Another strong Colorado team, Fairview (Colo.), joins the rankings after a big win and Redondo Union (Calif.) has clawed back into the West rankings that otherwise look much the same.

Facing a loss to a Connecticut team for a second straight week, the Tigers rallied late against Wilton (Conn.), with eighth-grader Kate Atkinson tying the game with 2:28 left in regulation and Kaylie Mackiewicz scoring the winner in the third overtime, her second of the game. Tanner Scarola had six goals and one assist, Ava Biancardi had four goals, Abby LoCascio had one goal and six assists and Shea Lembo made eight saves in a 16-10 win over Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.). Previous: 5

1. Glenelg Country (Md.), 14-1

The Dragons dominated their April 27 showdown with then-No. 1 St. Paul’s (Md.) 20-7. Jaclyn Marszal scored eight goals and had six assists for a career-high 14 points. Regan Byrne added five goals and Kate Furhman had a hat trick against the defending IAAM A Conference champions. Stephanie Marzal stopped 10 shots to preserve Glenelg’s big lead. The Dragons also pounded Garrison Forest (Md.) 17-7 to finish the regular season tied atop the IAAM A Conference with St. Paul’s. Their only loss came March 23 against Archbishop Spalding (Md.). 2. St. Paul’s (Md.), 14-1

The Gators lost to then-No. 2 Glenelg Country (Md.) 207 in a key final matchup of the regular season. St. Paul’s is working to overcome significant injuries in its starting defensive group. Lauren Steer and Cait Gross scored two goals apiece in the loss that snapped St. Paul’s 18-game winning streak. The Gators were 15-4 winners over Mount de Sales (Md.) earlier in the week. 3. McDonogh (Md.), 13-2

The Eagles won a pair of games this week. They edged Notre Dame Prep (Md.) 11-10 on April 27 and got by Roland Park Country (Md.) 17-14 on April 29. McDonogh was scheduled to play No. 5 Glenelg High (Md.) on May 2 but has to make up a game against Bryn Mawr (Md.) that will determine the third and fourth seeds for playoffs instead. Previous: 3

4. Glenelg High (Md.), 12-0

Glenelg comes into its toughest test of the season riding high after keeping its unbeaten season going with a pair of big wins. The Gladiators beat River Hill (Md.) 24-4 and then stopped Centennial (Md.) 20-6. Before they finish the regular season with Mount Hebron (Md.), they are scheduled to take on McDonogh on May 2. Previous: 5

5. Archbishop Carroll (Pa.), 13-0

The Patriots proved dominant against defending state champion Radnor (Pa.) with a 15-3 win on April 30. Ava Bleckley scored five goals and Kiley Mottice fired in four goals while Emma Talago and Mottice each had two assist apiece as Carroll stayed perfect. Carroll beat Lansdale Catholic (Pa.) 28-2. The Patriots have three Catholic League games this week as they look to build on their 5-0 league start. Previous: 6

6. Bryn Mawr (Md.), 10-2

The Mawrtians won what their coach called the “craziest game” she had seen, 17-11, over Archbishop Spalding (Md.). Without the mandated thigh pads available, Bryn Mawr played the final 13 minutes without a goalie and still held on. Hannah Johnson scored seven goals, Madi Carroll supplied four assists and Libby Speicher had three assists, and Merrill Watson had six points on four goals and two assists in the win. Bryn Mawr also stopped Garrison Forest (Md.) 20-10 earlier in the week. They have to beat McDonogh (Md.) on May 2 to earn the third seed for the playoffs, but are guaranteed no worse than the fourth seed. Previous: 7

7. Archbishop Spalding (Md.), 10-2

The Cavaliers were tripped up by Bryn Mawr (Md.) 17-11 in their regular season finale April 29 despite two goals apiece from Reese Dowgiallo, Ally Keith, Lilly Mullen and Bella Saviano. Saviano also had an assist. Spalding opened the week with an 18-14 win over Roland Park Country (Md.) and followed it with a 12-9 victory at John Carroll (Md.). 8. Summit (N.J.), 11-1

Lily Spinner scored four goals and Jane Freeman had a goal and three assists in a 10-7 win over Chatham (N.J.). Kit Zanelli scored four times and Spinner had eight points in a 17-8 win over Mountain Lakes (N.J.). Ashley Thomas put up six points to pace the offense in a 19-5 win over Easton (Pa.). Previous: 8

The Knights remained unbeaten with a 15-11 win over Mount Hebron (Md.). Their much anticipated rematch against Liberty (Md.), which gave them their closest contest to date – an 11-9 challenge on April 16 – was moved to May 3. Previous: 9

10. Maryvale (Md.), 12-5

The Lions won their final three games of the regular season. Maryvale topped Dulaney (Md.) 17-6, handed Mount de Sales (Md.) a 17-7 defeat, and overtook St. Mary’s (Md.) 13-5. They are 8-5 in the IAAM A Conference and sit in the sixth and final playoff spot. Previous: 10

The Stallions won a regional title April 30 with a 21-5 win over Pine Crest (Fla.). American Heritage-Delray got to the regional finals thanks to a 20-3 win over South Fork (Fla.). Senior Casey Roberts scored five times in the win. Previous: 1

The Warriors earned a division title and berth in the state final four with a 14-9 victory over Newsom (Fla.) on April 30. The Daisies compiled three wins over the course of two days en route to a conference title. Hockaday defeated St. John’s (Texas) 16-6 to win the Southwest Preparatory Conference crown. 4. Hillgrove (Ga.), 15-1

1. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 14-0

A longtime rival nearly handed the Golden Bears their first loss of the season. Instead, Upper Arlington managed to pull out a 7-6 win over New Albany (Ohio), led by two goals and two assists from senior Rian Adkins and two goals and a helper from junior Kampbell Stone. All told, five different players scored for the Golden Bears. Previous: 1

2. Jackson (Ohio), 9-1

The Polar Bears have caught fire since their 14-7 loss to Upper Arlington (Ohio), with seven straight wins. It's not just the victories. It's Jackson's explosive attack, as the Polar Bears have scored at least 13 goals in all seven victories. Previous: 3

3. New Albany (Ohio), 11-2

The Eagles gave the Golden Bears one heck of a battle, falling 7-6 in the epic clash April 28. New Albany quickly bounced back with a 14-6 victory over Loveland (Ohio) and is now allowing just 6.5 goals over its last six games. Previous: 4

4. New Trier (Ill.), 10-2

Safe to say the Trevians have rebounded from a couple of close Buckeye State losses as they picked up a 14-5 victory over Hoosier State power Carmel. Senior defender and Coastal Carolina commit Lily Wallace (6 groundballs, 2 caused turnovers) had her fingerprints all over the win, as did Ohio State commit Audrey Rudolph (3 caused turnovers) and Arizona State commit Addie Shevitz (4 goals). 5. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 9-5

The Ramblers made a big return from Maryland, topping in-state rival Hinsdale Central (Ill.), 15-9. Adrienne Leone (5 goals, 4 assists), Emma Burke (4 assists, 9 draws), Riley Jenkins (3 goals) and Maeve Dwyer (2 goals, 5 draws) were all over the scoresheet, while Olivia Kennedy racked up eight saves in net. Previous: 6

6. East Grand Rapids (Mich.), 7-1

The Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season, losing 15-13 at longtime rival Rockford (Mich.). EGR responded with 38 goals in two games, topping in-state foes Forest Hills Central (Mich.) 24-17 and Northville (Mich.) 14-0. Previous: 2

7. Hinsdale Central (Ill.), 9-3

Even in a tough loss to the Ramblers, there were positives, including another superb performance from junior Emily Brankin (3 goals, 1 assist). Seniors Ella Beargie (2 goals, 1 assist, 4 groundballs) and Tessa Howe (2 goals, 3 groundballs) also stood out. Previous: 7

8. Guerin Catholic (Ind.), 12-0

The Golden Eagles got another stellar performance from keeper Ruth Abdalla, who saved 72 percent of the shots that came her way in an 8-6 victory over Cathedral (Ind.). Meanwhile, Ella Bellflower (4 goals) and Alex Soucie (3 goals) highlighted an outstanding Guerin Catholic midfield. Previous: 8

9. Prior Lake (Minn.), 6-0

The Lakers have had little trouble scoring early in the 2022 campaign, including 51 goals in three victories this past week. That included three different players (Ava Schlitz, Megan Sporney and Nina Winter) tallying hat tricks in a 15-7 victory over Blake (Minn.) on April 30. Previous: 10

10. Sycamore (Ohio), 12-2

The Aviators' lone losses are to two of the top teams in the Midwest in New Albany (Ohio) and Upper Arlington (Ohio), and Sycamore is coming off a season sweep of Mason (Ohio). In the Aviators' latest win over the Comets, junior Laney Simons tallied an impressive four goals and six groundballs while senior Corinne Baker had a team-leading five goals. Previous: NR

1. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.), 18-1

Kat Chavez scored four goals, Elena Torres tallied five points on three goals and two assists, and the Knights rolled to a 22-1 win over Esperanza (Calif.) on April 25. Foothill followed with a 19-7 victory at Canyon to conclude the regular season. The Knights open the CIF Southern Section playoffs May 3 against Edison (Calif.). Previous: 3

2. Colorado Academy (Colo.), 10-1

The Mustangs had a 2,581-day undefeated streak against Colorado opponents come to an end last week when six-loss Kent Denver stunned them, 12-11. Vivian Leuthold and Zoe Martin led Colorado with three goals each. The Mustangs bounced back to beat Denver East (Colo.) 13-3 on April 29. Previous: 1

3. St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.), 15-2

The Wildcats had an eight-day break to recover from back-to-back losses to Colorado Academy (Colo.) and Cherry Creek (Colo.) in mid-April, and they bounced back in their return to action last week. They beat Menlo (Calif.) 21-1 and Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.) 10-5 to conclude the regular season. Previous: 2

4. Valor Christian (Colo.), 10-3

The Eagles beat Columbine (Colo.) 23-2 and Kent Denver (Colo.) 16-8 last week. Reagan Digby, Eliza Osburn and Tess Osburn each tallied four goals against Kent Denver. Digby added four assists and both Osburn girls had one assist. Previous: 4

5. Park City (Utah), 8-0

The Miners were idle last week. Samantha Riely leads the team with 4.0 goals and 2.7 assists per game, while Lilly Hunt adds 4.0 goals and 1.6 assists per game. Park City returns to action this week with three games. Previous: 5

6. Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.), 13-3

The Gators went 2-1 last week, dropping a second loss to St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) 10-5. The Wildcats account for both of SHP’s in-state losses. The Gators sandwiched the loss with wins against Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) and St. Francis Mountain View (Calif.). Previous: 6

7. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 11-3

The Falcons added wins against Canyon Crest Academy (Calif.) and Coronado (Calif.) last week. Nine players scored in a 14-3 win over Canyon Crest, led by Maddie Snyder’s three goals. Stella Mikolajewski added four assists and one goal. The Knights took out former No. 7 Cherry Creek (Colo.) last week, beating the Bruins 15-9 to replace them as the third Colorado team in the rankings.
