SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today named Johns Hopkins women’s lacrosse coach Janine Tucker as a speaker for girls’ lacrosse coaches at the 2018 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 19-21 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Tucker, in her 25th year as head coach of the Blue Jays, has won five IWLCA Regional Coach of the Year awards and amassed a career record of 271-144 (.653). She has led Johns Hopkins to three NCAA tournament appearances in the last five seasons.
Registration for LaxCon starts at $90.
“I love this event and am thrilled to return as a speaker,” Tucker said. “We’re all trying to grow the game, and a big way to do that is to make sure coaches have the knowledge and skills to help their players have great experiences in the game. LaxCon is a comprehensive event for high school and youth coaches to invest in their own development.”
Tucker took over at Homewood four years after an All-American playing career at Loyola, for which she was inducted into the university’s athletics hall of fame. Then a Division III program, Tucker successfully guided Johns Hopkins into Division I in 1999. Overall she has led the Blue Jays to double-digit win totals in 20 of her 24 seasons, six NCAA Division I tournament appearances, three ECAC Division I championship games and four NCAA Division III tournament appearances.
Tucker has coached 27 IWLCA All-Americans, one IWLCA Defensive Player of the Year and one Attacker of the Year, two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 60 IWLCA All-Region selections. She has authored multiple books on lacrosse for coaches and parents, and she is member of the Positive Coaching Alliance National Board of Advisors. Tucker also occupies leadership positions on committees with the Collegiate Women’s Lacrosse Officials Association and the Lacrosse Athlete Development Model initiative at US Lacrosse.
“Our attendee surveys annually reveal that Janine Tucker is one of the more popular and effective presenters at LaxCon,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “Her sessions are full of education, engagement and enthusiasm for girls’ lacrosse, and we can’t wait to welcome her back to the convention.”
LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year. The convention is open to the public, and members of US Lacrosse can save up to $40 or more on registration. Special hotel rates are available for all attendees who book accommodations before Dec. 17. For more information or to register, visit uslacrosse.org/laxcon.
